The evaporation dynamics of sessile droplets on re-entrant microstructures are critical for applications in microfluidics, thermal management, and self-cleaning surfaces. Re-entrant structures, such as mushroom-like shapes with overhanging features, trap air beneath droplets to enhance non-wettability. The present study examines the evaporation of a water droplet on silicon carbide (SiC) and silicon dioxide (SiO) re-entrant structures, focusing on the effects of material composition and solid area fraction on volume reduction, contact angle, and evaporation modes.

In this study, we investigate the thermal pinning and depinning behaviors of vortex domain walls (VDWs) in constricted magnetic nanowires, with a focus on potential applications in storage memory nanodevices. Using micromagnetic simulations and spin transfer torque, we examine the impacts of device temperature on VDW transformation into a transverse domain wall (TDW), mobility, and thermal strength pinning at the constricted area. We explore how thermal fluctuations influence the stability and mobility of domain walls within stepped nanowires.

Droplet boiling on the heating surface is a representative phenomenon in two-phase spray cooling under low volumetric fluxes. In particular, droplet boiling in the transition boiling regime holds the advantages of avoiding heat transfer deterioration in a film boiling regime and achieving comparable high heat transfer capacity in a nucleate boiling regime. While it is known to consist of intermittent liquid contact with the surface and surface dryout, quantifying the ensuing transient heat transfer performance and droplet behavior is very illusive.

We examine changes in the depinning threshold and conduction noise fluctuations for driven Wigner crystals in the presence of quenched disorder. At low temperatures there is a well defined depinning threshold and a strong peak in the noise power with1/fnoise characteristics. At higher temperatures, the depinning threshold shifts to lower drives and the noise, which is also reduced in power, becomes more white in character.

The present study is primarily focused on the coupled effects of substrate heating, colloidal dispersion, and particle size variation on the contact line (CL) pinning-depinning dynamics of evaporating droplets containing mono- (3/4.5 μm) and bidispersed (3 and 4.5 μm) polystyrene colloidal particles on poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) substrates.
