On the formation and stability mechanisms of diverse lipid-based nanostructures for drug delivery.

Adv Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.

In the evolving landscape of nanotechnology and pharmaceuticals, lipid nanostructures have emerged as pivotal areas of research due to their unique ability to mimic biological membranes and encapsulate active molecules. These nanostructures offer promising avenues for drug delivery, vaccine development, and diagnostic applications. This comprehensive review explores the complex mechanisms underlying the formation and stability of various lipid nanostructures, including lipid liquid crystalline nanoparticles and solid lipid nanoparticles.

Massively parallel Hong-Ou-Mandel interference based on independent soliton microcombs.

Sci Adv

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Transient Optics and Photonics, Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi'an 710119, China.

Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interference is the foundation of quantum optics to test the degree of indistinguishability of two incoming photons, playing a key role in quantum communication, sensing, and photonic quantum computing. Realizing high-visibility HOM interference with massively parallel optical channels is challenging due to the lack of available natural optical references for aligning independent arrayed laser pairs. Here, we demonstrate 50 parallel comb-teeth pairs of continuous-wave weak coherent photons HOM interference using two independently frequency post-aligned soliton microcombs (SMCs), achieving an average fringe visibility over 46%.

Fear extinction is the foundation of exposure therapy for anxiety and phobias. However, the stability of extinction memory diminishes over time, coinciding with fear recovery. To augment long-term extinction retention, the temporal distribution of extinction learning sessions is critical.

For what we believe to be the first time, we propose a general design method for ultralong optical path length (OPL) multipass matrix cells (MMCs) based on the multicycle mode of two-sided field mirrors. Based on the classical Pickett Bradley White cell (PBWC), the design idea of the dual-circulation mode based on two-sided field mirrors is described in detail, with the example of the MMC based on the PBWC-PBWC. Its simple design method and optical stability analysis are given.

Anterior cervical interbody fusion (ACDF) has become a classic surgical procedure for the treatment of cervical degenerative diseases, and various interbody cages are widely used in this procedure. We used 3D printing technology to produce a new type of plate-locking cage, anticipating to achieve high fusion rate with the high biomechanical stability. This study is to compare the biomechanical characteristics between a newly designed interbody cage and a conventional Zero-profile cage during ACDF using finite element analysis.
