Role of Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor in Angiotensin II-Induced Hypertension.

Hypertension

January 2025

Department of Nephrology, Medical Faculty, University Hospital Düsseldorf, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany (S.A.P., I.Q., D. Arifaj, M.K., D. Argov, L.C.R., J.S.).

Background: Ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), mainly known for its neuroprotective properties, belongs to the IL-6 (interleukin-6) cytokine family. In contrast to IL-6, the effects of CNTF on the vasculature have not been explored. Here, we examined the role of CNTF in AngII (angiotensin II)-induced hypertension.

Nanozymes with specific catalytic activity inhibit inflammation and promote wound healing efficiently and safely. In this work, multifunctional manganese-based nanozymes (MnGA) with antioxidant properties were successfully constructed via a simple coordination reaction in which manganese chloride was used as the manganese source and gallic acid (GA) was used as the ligand solution. MnGA possesses both catalase-like (CAT-like) and superoxide dismutase-like (SOD-like) activities and a reactive nitrogen species (RNS) scavenging capacity, which enables it to efficiently inhibit the inflammatory response.

Xylooligosaccharides: A comprehensive review of production, purification, characterization, and quantification.

Food Res Int

February 2025

Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute, University of Nottingham Ningbo, Ningbo 315100, China. Electronic address:

Xylooligosaccharides (XOS), short-chain polymers with prebiotic properties, have gained significant commercial attention over the past few decades due to their potential as nutraceutical components. Derived from lignocellulosic biomass (LCB), XOS serve as health promoting compounds with applications across multiple sectors, including food pharmaceutical and cosmetic. This comprehensive review provides an overview of XOS production, purification, characterization, and quantification, highlighting their derivation from various sources such as agricultural waste, agro-economical forest residues, and nutrient-dense energy crops.

TC2N maintains stem cell-like characteristics to accelerate lung carcinogenesis by blockade of dual specificity protein phosphatase 3.

Cell Biosci

January 2025

Department of Pathology, Xinqiao Hospital, Third Military Medical University, 183 Xinqiao Street, Shapingba District, Chongqing, 400037, PR China.

Background: Tandem C2 domains, nuclear (TC2N) is a protein that has been characterized to contain C2A domain, C2B domain, and a short C-terminus with a WHXL motif. In previous studies, we have uncovered the oncogenic role and mechanisms of TC2N in lung cancer: TC2N achieves this by inhibiting the p53 signaling pathway and activating the NF-kappaB signaling pathway. Beyond that, its precise function in tumorigenesis is not fully understood.

Utilizing sc-linker to integrate single-cell RNA sequencing and human genetics to identify cell types and driver genes associated with non-small cell lung cancer.

BMC Cancer

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, Xiamen Cancer Center, Xiamen Key Laboratory of Radiation Oncology, School of Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, Xiamen University, Xiamen, China.

Background: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) provide a powerful method for identifying the loci and genes that contribute to disease. However, in many cases, the specific cell types and states that confer disease risk through these genes remain unknown. Determining this relationship is crucial for identifying pathogenic processes and developing therapeutic strategies.
