Dissipative coupling-induced phonon lasing.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

December 2022

State Key Laboratory of Precision Spectroscopy, Institute of Quantum Science and Precision Measurement, East China Normal University, Shanghai 200062, China.

Phonon lasers, as the counterpart of photonic lasers, have been intensively studied in a large variety of systems; however, (all) most of them are based on the directly coherent pumping. Intuitively, dissipation is unfavorable for lasing. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a mechanism of generating phonon lasing from the dissipative coupling in a multimode optomechanical system.

Graphene Domain Signature of Raman Spectra of Amorphous Carbons.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

October 2020

Institute of Physical Researches and Technologies, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), Miklukho-Maklaya 6, 117198 Moscow, Russia.

The standard D-G-2D pattern of Raman spectra of amorphous carbons is considered from the viewpoint of graphene domains presenting their basic structure units (BSUs) in terms of molecular spectroscopy. The molecular approximation allows connecting the characteristic D-G doublet spectra image of one-phonon spectra with a considerable dispersion of the C=C bond lengths within graphene domains, governed by size, heteroatom necklace of BSUs as well as BSUs packing. The interpretation of 2D two-phonon spectra reveals a particular role of electrical anharmonicity in the spectra formation and attributes this effect to a high degree of the electron density delocalization in graphene domains.

Signatures of nonlinear cavity optomechanics in the weak coupling regime.

Phys Rev Lett

August 2013

Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, Blegdamsvej 17, DK-2100 Copenhagen, Denmark.

We identify signatures of the intrinsic nonlinear interaction between light and mechanical motion in cavity optomechanical systems. These signatures are observable even when the cavity linewidth exceeds the optomechanical coupling rate. A strong laser drive red detuned by twice the mechanical frequency from the cavity resonance frequency makes two-phonon processes resonant, which leads to a nonlinear version of optomechanically induced transparency.
