Heterobimetallic complexes of an ambidentate deferiprone derivative, 3-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-(3-((pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino)propyl)pyridin-4(1H)-one (PyPropHpH), incorporating an octahedral [Co(4N)] (4N = tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (tren) or tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (tpa)) and a half-sandwich type [(η--cym)Ru] (-cym = -cymene) entity have been synthesized and characterized by various analytical techniques. The reaction between PyPropHpH and [Co(4N)Cl]Cl resulted in the exclusive (O,O) coordination of the ligand to Co(III) yielding [Co(tren)PyPropHp](PF) () and [Co(tpa)PyPropHp](PF) (). This binding mode was further supported by the molecular structure of [Co(tpa)PyPropHp](ClO)(OH)·6HO () and [Co(tren)PyPropHpH]Cl(PF)·2HO·CHOH (), respectively, obtained via the slow evaporation of the appropriate reaction mixtures and analyzed using X-ray crystallography.

This study investigates whether heart rate asymmetry (HRA) parameters offer insights into sleep stages beyond those provided by conventional heart rate variability (HRV) and complexity measures. Utilizing 31 polysomnographic recordings, we focused exclusively on electrocardiogram (ECG) data, specifically the RR interval time series, to explore heart rate dynamics associated with different sleep stages. Employing both statistical techniques and machine learning models, with the Generalized Estimating Equation model as the foundational approach, we assessed the effectiveness of HRA in identifying and differentiating sleep stages and transitions.

A method for evaluating Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence and Squared Hellinger (SH) distance between empirical data and a model distribution is proposed. This method exclusively utilises the empirical Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF) of the data and the CDF of the model, avoiding data processing such as histogram binning. The proposed method converges almost surely, with the proof based on the use of exponentially distributed waiting times.
