In this study, we develop a comprehensive two-phase model to analyze the dynamics of bacterial swarming on porous substrates. The two distinct phases under consideration are the cell and aqueous phases. We use the thin-film approximation, as the characteristic height of the swarm is significantly lower than its characteristic radius.

Reducing the contact time of an impacting droplet is highly desirable in various industrial fields including anti-icing. With the straightforward upscaling advantage, singularities on superhydrophobic surfaces can induce an annular rebound with a limited reduction in contact time. To break this limitation and further reduce contact time, this study focuses on optimizing the singularity number and arrangement.

As in natural cytoskeletons, the cooperative assembly of fibrillar networks can be hosted inside compartments to engineer biomimetic functions, such as mechanical actuation, transport, and reaction templating. Coacervates impose an optimal liquid-liquid phase separation within the aqueous continuum, functioning as membrane-less compartments that can organise such self-assembling processes as well as the exchange of information with their environment. Furthermore, biological fibrillation can often be controlled or assisted by intracellular compartments.

Linear defects such as dislocations and disclinations in ordered materials attract foreign particles since they replace strong elastic distortions at the defect cores. In this work, we explore the behavior of isotropic droplets nucleating at singular disclinations in a nematic liquid crystal, predesigned by surface photopatterning. Experiments show that in the biphasic nematic-isotropic region, although the droplets are attracted to the disclination cores, their centers of mass shift away from the core centers as the temperature increases.

This review explores the intersection of microfluidic technology and complex emulsion development as a promising solution to the challenges of formulations in multi-drug therapy (MDT) and polypharmacy. The convergence of microfluidic technology and complex emulsion fabrication could herald a transformative era in multi-drug delivery systems, directly confronting the prevalent challenges of polypharmacy. Microfluidics, with its unparalleled precision in droplet formation, empowers the encapsulation of multiple drugs within singular emulsion particles.
