Objective: The objective of this trial was to assess the therapeutic activity and toxicity of ifosfamide (IFO) with mesna uroprotection as salvage therapy in patients (pts) with soft tissue sarcomas (STS) who had failed high-dose epirubicin treatment.

Patients And Methods: IFO was administered at a dose of 2.0 g/m2 daily for 5 consecutive days by a 2-h i.v. infusion every 3 weeks.

Results: Partial responses were observed in 5/31 (16%) evaluable patients, whereas in other 5 pts the disease remained stable. The median duration of response was 8 months. The median overall survival was 6.5 months. The most common toxicity was hematologic with grade 3 or 4 neutropenia occurring in 47% of the pts. Neurologic toxicity was infrequent, but in 1 patient treatment discontinuation was needed because of severe mental confusion and disorientation.

Conclusions: Although IFO can be of value in a minority of pts with anthracycline-refractory STS, more active agents and new salvage cytotoxic regimens should be investigated in this disease.

Introduction: Persistent throat symptoms (PTS) are indicators for over 60 000 new patient referrals to NHS secondary care annually. PTS have been attributed to manifestation of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) with the hypothesis that gastric refluxate damages and irritates the mucosa of the upper aerodigestive tract. Symptoms of PTS and GORD are commonly treated with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or alginates are often, incorrectly, advocated.

BACKGROUND Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is one of the most common peripheral vascular diseases. AngioJet pharmacomechanical thrombectomy has been widely used to treat DVT. This study evaluated outcomes of patients with DVT after pharmacomechanical thrombectomy and determined potential risk factors associated with prognosis.

: As one of the important interventions to alleviate anthracycline-related cardiotoxicity (ARC), the safety assessment of dexrazoxane in clinical practice is particularly important. This study aims to evaluate the actual efficacy and potential adverse effects of dexrazoxane in clinical practice by analyzing the reports of adverse events (AEs) related to the combination with dexrazoxane and anthracyclines. : We utilized four disproportionality analysis methods to analyze AE reports of the combination with dexrazoxane and anthracyclines in the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database from the third quarter of 2014 to the first quarter of 2024.

: Available data suggest the diagnostic potential of testing microRNAs (miRs) in myocardial infarction, but their prognostic value remains unclear. To evaluate the prognostic value of circulating miRs (miR-1, miR-21, miR-133a, miR-208 and miR-499) for predicting major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), including death, non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI) or cardiovascular rehospitalization, in patients with non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTE-ACS). Our prospective, single-center, observational study included patients (pts) with NSTE-ACS admitted <24 h after symptoms onset and pts with confirmed stable coronary artery disease (SCAD) as controls.

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) stress techniques-including single-leg stress radiographs, Telos, and KT-1000 arthrometer-are highly accessible and can provide additional diagnostic information to assess ACL and ACL graft integrity. The degree of anterior tibial translation (ATT) may be useful in guiding treatment when a diagnosis on magnetic resonance imaging is not conclusive or for judging if additional treatments, such as anterolateral complex augmentation, may be necessary.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing posterior tibial slope (PTS) on baseline tibial position (BTP) and side-to-side differences (SSD) in ATT.
