Carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (CDT) has been reported to be one of the best laboratory markers in serum (S) for detection of alcohol abuse. We have studied S-CDT values in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and show that CF patients have increased S-CDT values without high alcohol consumption. CF patients have abnormalities in their protein glycosylation and sialylation, which may explain the increased S-CDT values.

Mapping the clockworks: what does the Clock Drawing Test assess in normal and pathological aging?

Arq Neuropsiquiatr

October 2013

Laboratory of Neuropsychological Investigations (LIN), Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Belo HorizonteMG, Brazil.

The Clock Drawing Test (CDT) is a cognitive screening tool used in clinical and research settings. Despite its role on the assessment of global cognitive functioning, the specific cognitive components required for test performance are still unclear. We aim to assess the role of executive functioning, global cognitive status, visuospatial abilities, and semantic knowledge on Shulman's CDT performance.

Re-evaluation of the dysequilibrium syndrome.

Acta Neurol Scand

January 2011

Department of Neuroscience, Unit of Neurology, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden.

Objectives: To re-evaluate middle-aged Swedish patients diagnosed with dysequilibrium syndrome (DES) in childhood and to compare their clinical and neuroimaging features to DES with VLDLR gene mutations (DES-VLDR).

Materials And Methods: Six patients from five families underwent neurological examination and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain. Blood samples from the patients were screened for serum carbohydrate-deficient transferrin (s-CDT; disialotransferrin).

Liver microbubble transit time compared with histology and Child-Pugh score in diffuse liver disease: a cross sectional study.

Gut

August 2003

Imaging Sciences Department, Clinical Sciences Division, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College, Hammersmith Hospital Campus, Du Cane Rd, London, UK.

Background: A previous pilot study showed that early arrival time of a microbubble in a hepatic vein is a sensitive indicator of cirrhosis.

Aim: To see if this index can also grade diffuse liver disease.

Patients: Thirty nine fasted patients with histologically characterised disease were studied prospectively.
