Objective: Little evidence exists on which cigar warning statement attributes may impact cigar warning effectiveness; research is needed to identify the most effective cigar warning topics and text. This study was designed to inform the development of improved cigar warnings.

Design: We conducted a choice-based conjoint experiment.

Background: Pseudothrombocytopenia is a spurious thrombocytopenia caused mostly by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) use, and if detected early, unnecessary testing and treatment can be avoided. We present pseudothrombocytopenia caused by EDTA and citrate in an asymptomatic healthy child, as well as the value of using peripheral blood smear, platelet histogram, and flag data.

Case: A previously healthy 13-year-old girl with thrombocytopenia who developed tonsillitis 12 days previously was referred to our hematology department.

Boronize Coatings Studied with a New Mass Transfer Model.

Materials (Basel)

October 2024

Industrial Engineering Department, Tlalnepantla Institute of Technology, National Technological Institute of Mexico (ITTLA/TecNM), Avenida Instituto Tecnológico, s/n, Colonia La Comunidad, Tlalnepantla de Baz 54070, Estado de México, Mexico.

This study examined the development of FeB (diiron boronize) coatings on the surface of 35NiCrMo4 steel through the thermochemical surface hardening process called boronizing. The morphology and thickness of the boronize coatings were assessed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and optical microscopy (OM). A novel mathematical mass transfer model was developed to estimate the diffusion coefficients of boron in hard coating.

Waveform Optimization for the Detection of Caffeic Acid by Fast-Scan Cyclic Voltammetry.

ACS Meas Sci Au

October 2024

Department of Chemistry, Roanoke College, 221 College Lane, Salem, Virginia 24153, United States.

Caffeic acid is a polyphenol of critical importance in plants, involved in a variety of physiological processes including lignin formation, cellular growth, stress response, and external signaling. This small molecule also acts as a powerful antioxidant and thus has therapeutic potential for a variety of health conditions. Traditional methods of detecting caffeic acid lack appropriate temporal resolution to monitor real time concentration changes on a subsecond time scale with nM detection limits.

Microscopic particle separation plays a vital role in various scientific and industrial domains. Conventional separation methods relying on external forces or physical barriers inherently exhibit limitations in terms of efficiency, selectivity, and adaptability across diverse particle types. To overcome these limitations, researchers are constantly exploring new separation approaches, among which ratchet-based separation is a noteworthy method.
