Each cell in the human body is continually exposed to harmful external and internal factors. During evolution, cells have developed various defence systems, divided into enzymatic and non-enzymatic types, to which low-weight molecule antioxidants belong. In this article, the ionisation potential and electron affinity, as well as global reactivity descriptors of Vitamin C, Melatonin, Uric Acids, and N-acetyl-L-cysteine, were theoretically investigated at the MP-2/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory in the condensed (aqueous) phase.

The key step in the entire molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) preparation process is the formation of the complementary cavities in the polymer matrix through the template removal process. The template is removed using chemical treatments, leaving behind selective binding sites for target molecules within the polymer matrix. Other MIP preparation steps include mixing monomers and template molecules in the appropriate solvent(s), monomer-template complex equilibration, and polymerisation of the monomers around the template.

A novel experimental technique, quasi-equilibrated temperature-programmed desorption and adsorption (QE-TPDA), was used to study the water sorption properties and hydrothermal stability of aluminum trimesate MIL-96 and aluminum isophthalate CAU-10, which have been selected due to their remarkable sorption properties. The QE-TPDA profiles of water observed for MIL-96 and CAU-10 confirmed the hydrophilic nature of these materials. Complex QE-TPDA profiles indicate that water sorption in MIL-96 follows a three-step pore filling mechanism.

Article Synopsis
  • Fe(III) complexes with carboxylic acids are crucial for environmental photochemistry and could be effective in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs).
  • The study presents two methods to accurately determine quantum yields for photolysis and hydroxyl (OH) radical generation from these complexes when exposed to UV light.
  • New findings establish a correlation between the quantum yields of OH generation for various Fe complexes and resolve discrepancies in previous literature, enhancing the understanding of their efficiency in environmental applications.
