Separation of multi-component mixtures in an energy-efficient manner has important practical impact in chemical industry but is highly challenging. Especially, targeted simultaneous removal of multiple impurities to purify the desired product in one-step separation process is an extremely difficult task. We introduced a pore integration strategy of modularizing ordered pore structures with specific functions for on-demand assembly to deal with complex multi-component separation systems, which are unattainable by each individual pore.

Basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factors serve as crucial regulators in plants' response to abiotic stress; however, its function in grapevine heat tolerance is still largely unknown. Here, we undertook a comprehensive investigation of grape genome, leading to the identification of 65 VvbZIP genes, among which 16 VvbZIPs were significantly induced under heat stress. Overexpression of VvbZIP36 enhanced heat tolerance in grape calli, while virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) of VvbZIP36 reflected thermal sensitivity.

A convenient method is proposed using a heat-treatable volatile template to prepare hierarchical porous biochar (HPB). Litsea cubeba leaves and ZIF-8 served as carbon source and volatile hard template, respectively. The good compatibility between ZIF-8 and biomass facilitated their uniform dispersion, and the thermal decomposition of ZIF-8 created abundant pores in the HPB.
