Background: Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) encompasses a spectrum of histological conditions ranging from simple steatosis to fibrosing steatohepatitis, and is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). While oxidised apolipoproteins A and B have been linked to obesity and CVD, the association between other oxidised apolipoproteins and MASLD is yet to be established. To fill this gap, we characterised the circulating serum peptidome of patients with MASLD.

The performance of lead sulfide colloidal quantum dot (PbS-CQD) solar cells has long been hindered by interface defects in the transport layer. Traditionally, 1,2-ethanedithiol (EDT), used in solid-state ligand exchange, has been a common choice as the hole transport layer (HTL) in many PbS-CQD solar cells. However, the rapid reaction rate and chain length mismatch (shorter-chain EDT versus longer-chain oleic acid) during the ligand exchange process often introduce crack defects in the HTL film, resulting in an unexpected low performance.

Training accurate machine learning potentials requires electronic structure data comprehensively covering the configurational space of the system of interest. As the construction of this data is computationally demanding, many schemes for identifying the most important structures have been proposed. Here, we compare the performance of high-dimensional neural network potentials (HDNNPs) for quantum liquid water at ambient conditions trained to data sets constructed using random sampling as well as various flavors of active learning based on query by committee.

Among expanding discoveries of quantum phases in moiré superlattices, correlated insulators stand out as both the most stable and most commonly observed. Despite the central importance of these states in moiré physics, little is known about their underlying nature. Here, we use pump-probe spectroscopy to show distinct time-domain signatures of correlated insulators at fillings of one (ν = -1) and two (ν = -2) holes per moiré unit cell in the angle-aligned WSe/WS system.

In previous work, we investigated thermodynamic processes in systems at the mesoscopic level where traditional thermodynamic descriptions (macroscopic or microscopic) may not be fully adequate. The key result is that entropy in such systems does not change continuously, as in macroscopic systems, but rather in discrete steps characterized by the quantization constant β. This quantization reflects the underlying discrete nature of the collision process in low-dimensional systems and the essential role played by thermodynamic fluctuations at this scale.
