We examine the phase structure of the two-flavor Schwinger model as a function of the θ angle and the two masses, m_{1} and m_{2}. In particular, we find interesting effects at θ=π: along the SU(2)-invariant line m_{1}=m_{2}=m, in the regime where m is much smaller than the charge g, the theory undergoes logarithmic renormalization group flow of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless type. As a result, dimensional transmutation takes place, leading to a nonperturbatively small mass gap ∼e^{-Ag^{2}/m^{2}}.

Photoelectron circular dichroism (PECD), the forward-backward asymmetry of the photoelectron angular distribution when ionizing randomly oriented chiral molecules with circularly polarized light, is an established method to investigate chiral properties of molecules in their electronic ground state. Here, we develop a computational strategy for predicting time-resolved PECD (TRPECD) of chemical reactions and demonstrate the method on the photodissociation of 1-iodo-2-methylbutane. Our approach combines multi-configurational quantum-chemical calculations of the relevant potential-energy surfaces of the neutral and singly ionized molecule with molecular-dynamics (AIMD) calculations.

New insights into the oscillations of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors.

Sci Bull (Beijing)

November 2023

Helmholtz Institut für Strahlen- und Kernphysik and Bethe Center for Theoretical Physics, Universität Bonn, Bonn D-53115, Germany; Institute for Advanced Simulation, Institut für Kernphysik and Jülich Center for Hadron Physics, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Jülich D-52425, Germany; Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi 0186, Georgia.

The electromagnetic form factors of the proton and the neutron in the timelike region are investigated. Electron-positron annihilation into antinucleon-nucleon (N¯N) pairs is treated in distorted wave Born approximation, including the final-state interaction in the N¯N system. The latter is obtained by a Lippmann-Schwinger equation for N¯N potentials derived within SU(3) chiral effective field theory.

Real-Time Nonperturbative Dynamics of Jet Production in Schwinger Model: Quantum Entanglement and Vacuum Modification.

Phys Rev Lett

July 2023

Computational Science Initiative, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York 11973-5000, USA.

The production of jets should allow testing the real-time response of the QCD vacuum disturbed by the propagation of high-momentum color charges. Addressing this problem theoretically requires a real-time, nonperturbative method. It is well known that the Schwinger model [QED in (1+1) dimensions] shares many common properties with QCD, including confinement, chiral symmetry breaking, and the existence of vacuum fermion condensate.

In intramolecular [2+2] photocycloaddition reactions, the two tethered olefins can approach each other in a straight or in a crossed fashion. Despite the fact that the latter reaction mode leads to intriguing, otherwise inaccessible bridged skeletons, there has so far not been any enantioselective variants thereof. This study concerned the crossed [2+2]-photocycloaddition of 2-(alkenyloxy)cyclohex-2-enones to bridged cyclobutanes.
