The objective of the proposed research is to develop plasma soft X-ray (SXR) radiation imaging that includes spectral information in addition to standard SXR tomography for the purpose of studying, for example, tungsten transport and its interplay with magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) in tokamak plasmas in an ITER-relevant approach. The SXR radiation provides valuable information about both aspects, particularly when measured with high spatial and temporal resolution and when tomographic reconstructions are performed. The spectral data will facilitate the tracking of both light and high-Z impurities.

This work addresses discrepancies in the alignment of the H-mode pedestal profiles of the electron and ion properties in the DIII-D tokamak as measured by Thomson Scattering (TS) and Charge Exchange Recombination Spectroscopy (CER) diagnostics. While the alignment of these profiles is key for accurate studies of tokamak physics and plasma confinement, misalignments can occur due to inaccuracies, such as in magnetic equilibrium reconstructions required to map measurements in different poloidal and toroidal locations. Both FIDASIM, an established simulation package, and a simplified collisional radiative model are used to simulate neutral beam state densities and neutral beam emission.

A synthetic Mirnov diagnostic has been developed to investigate the capabilities and limitations of an arrangement of Mirnov coils in terms of a mode analysis. Eight test cases have been developed, with different coil arrangements and magnetic field configurations. Three of those cases are experimental configurations of the stellarator Wendelstein 7-X.

We study the geometrical properties of phase-space trajectories (or orbits) of a spring pendulum as functions of the energy. Poincaré maps are used to describe the properties of the system. The points in the Poincaré maps of regular orbits (non-chaotic) cluster around separated segments or in chains of islands.

Determination of the poloidal magnetic field distribution in tokamaks is of prime importance for the successful operation of tokamaks. In this paper, we propose a polarization-sensitive reflectometry-based optical fiber sensor for measuring the spatial distribution of the poloidal magnetic field in tokamaks. The measurement method exploits the Rayleigh backscattering and Faraday magneto-optic effect in optical fibers.
