A novel polysaccharide in the envelope of influences the septal secretion of preproteins with a YSIRK/GXXS motif.

J Bacteriol

January 2025

Department of Microbiology, Howard Taylor Ricketts Laboratory, The University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Unlabelled: Bacteria transport proteins across the plasma membrane to assemble their envelope, acquire nutrients, and establish appropriate interactions with their environment. The majority of these proteins are synthesized as precursors with a cleavable N-terminal signal sequence for recognition by the Sec machinery. In , a small subset of secreted precursors carries a YSIRK/GXXS motif.

Background: Enamel renal gingival syndrome (ERS) is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in the FAM20A gene located on long arm of chromosome 17. It is characterized by presence of intra-oral features like hypoplastic type of amelogenesis imperfecta, fibromatosis of gingiva and nephrocalcinosis in addition to delayed eruption. The oral phenotype is evident in childhood, whereas the renal involvement is clinically silent at this age and requires further investigation for detection at later age.

Pulse-by-pulse treatment planning and its application to generic observations of ultra-high dose rate (FLASH) radiotherapy with photons and protons.

Phys Med Biol

January 2025

Joint Department of Physics, The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Downs Road, Sutton, London, SM2 5PT, UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND.

The exact temporal characteristics of beam delivery affect the efficacy and outcome of ultra-high dose rate (UHDR or "FLASH") radiotherapy, mainly due to the influence of the beam pulse structure on mean dose rate. Single beams may also be delivered in separate treatment sessions to elevate mean dose rate. This paper therefore describes a model for pulse-by-pulse treatment planning and demonstrates its application by making some generic observations of the characteristics of FLASH radiotherapy with photons and protons.

Analysis of a class of two-delay fractional differential equation.

Chaos

January 2025

School of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad 500046, India.

The differential equations involving two discrete delays are helpful in modeling two different processes in one model. We provide the stability and bifurcation analysis in the fractional order delay differential equation Dαx(t)=ax(t)+bx(t-τ)-bx(t-2τ) in the ab-plane. Various regions of stability include stable, unstable, single stable region (SSR), and stability switch (SS).

Background: The significance of tactile stimulation in human social development and personal interaction is well documented; however, the underlying cerebral processes remain under-researched. This study employed functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the neural correlates of social touch processing, with a particular focus on the functional connectivity associated with the aftereffects of touch.

Methods: A total of 27 experimental subjects were recruited for the study, all of whom underwent a 5-minute calf and foot massage prior to undergoing resting-state fMRI.
