A French family with hereditary renal amyloidosis (HRA) was studied. The disease presented in 7 of the 8 affected individuals with proteinuria or the nephrotic syndrome. The age of onset was in the fifth decade of life. There is currently no sign of extrarenal involvement in any affected individual. However, the nephropathy in this family is progressive and led to terminal renal failure in 4 patients. Immunohistochemistry studies of glomerular amyloid deposits suggested that the amyloid protein was the fibrinogen A alpha chain. Direct DNA sequencing revealed a G 4993 T transversion and subsequently Arg 554 Leu mutation in the fibrinogen A alpha chain. This is the first description of this fibrinogen A alpha chain mutation in Europe. This family is of French descent and cannot be related to the previously reported Peruvian/Mexican and African-American kindreds.

Background: The diagnostic criteria of neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis caused by citrin deficiency (NICCD) have not been established due to non-specific clinical manifestations, and our understanding on the treatment outcome is still limited. We aim to investigate the biochemical characteristics, genetic variants, and treatment outcome of NICCD patients.
Methods: We compared the nutritional status and biochemical characteristics of 55 NICCD infants and 27 idiopathic neonatal cholestasis (INC) infants.

Objective: To investigate the screening efficacy of six thrombotic markers for hypercoagulable state (HCS) in pregnant women, including thrombin-antithrombin III complex (TAT), plasmin-alpha-2 plasmin inhibitor complex (PIC), thrombomodulin (TM), tissue-type plasminogen activator inhibitor complex(t-PAI-C), D-dimer(D-D), and fibrinogen degradation products (FDP).
Methods: This was a retrospective study. Eighty-five high-risk pregnant women who underwent antenatal examination at Baoding maternal and Child Health Hospital from December 2022 to September 2023 were included as the observation group, while 85 healthy pregnant women without complications or comorbidities who underwent routine antenatal examinations at our hospital were randomly enrolled as the control group.

This study investigates the physicochemical interactions between fibrinogen (Fib), a key glycoprotein in blood clotting, and a mixture of two biologically active compounds: dicloxacillin (Diclox), an antibiotic; and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), a cationic surfactant. Understanding these interactions is crucial for enhancing drug delivery systems and optimizing pharmaceutical formulations. Molecular docking simulations and various spectroscopic techniques, including UV-Vis, fluorescence, and circular dichroism, were employed to explore how this mixture affects the structural and functional properties of fibrinogen.

Hermetia illucens, with a short growth cycle, is promising as a valuable source of chitin. However, the optimal method for extracting chitin from this insect and its application for hemostasis has not been addressed. This work employed an environmentally friendly choline chloride-lactic acid deep eutectic solvent technology to extract chitin effectively from the Hermetia illucens pupae shells, realizing one-step removal of inorganic salts and proteins.

Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) comprises deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) typically arises from acute pulmonary embolism. The pathogenesis of them involves multiple risk factors such as genetic predisposition.
