β-carbolines (βCs) represent a large family of bioactive alkaloids, including norharmane and normelinonine F, known for their diverse pharmacological activities. The effects of these alkaloids may depend, among other factors, on their delivery, accumulation in different subcellular compartments, and interactions with biomacromolecules such as serum albumins. In this study, we investigated the pH dependence of the interactions between bovine serum albumin (BSA) and four βCs (norharmane, normelinonine F, and their corresponding N(9)-methyl derivatives) using UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, combined with multivariate analysis and molecular docking.

Importance: Fracture-related infection (FRI) is a serious complication following fracture fixation surgery. Current treatment of FRIs entails debridement and 6 weeks of intravenous (IV) antibiotics. Lab data and retrospective clinical studies support use of oral antibiotics, which are less expensive and may have fewer complications than IV antibiotics.

In most solid tumors, cellular energy metabolism is primarily dominated by aerobic glycolysis, which fulfills the high demand for biomacromolecules at the expense of reduced ATP production efficiency. Elucidation of the mechanisms by which rapidly proliferating malignant cells acquire sufficient energy in this state of inefficient ATP production from glycolysis could enable development of metabolism targeted therapeutic strategies. In this study, we observed a significant association between elevated expression levels of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) SNHG17 and unfavorable prognosis in breast cancer (BCa).

The exploration of their interconnection and potential applications has emerged as a current research focus. Here, we investigated non-Hermitian photonics based on a parallel cascaded-resonator system, where both direct and indirect coupling between adjacent resonators can be independently manipulated.
