Higher-order topological insulators and semimetals, which generalize the conventional bulk-boundary correspondence, have attracted extensive research interest. Among them, higher-order Weyl semimetals feature twofold linear crossing points in three-dimensional momentum space, 2D Fermi-arc surface states, and 1D hinge states. Higher-order nodal-point semimetals possessing Weyl points or Dirac points have been implemented.

Network materials with stochastic structure are ubiquitous in biology and engineering, which drives the current interest in establishing relations between their structure and mechanical behavior. In this work we focus on the effect of connectivity defined by the number of fibers emerging from a crosslink, , and compare networks with identical (-homogeneous) and distinct (-heterogeneous) at the crosslinks. We observe that the functional form of strain stiffening is -independent, and that the central -dependent parameter is the small strain stiffness, .

Nucleation of particles into crystalline structures can be observed in a wide range of systems from metallic and metal-organic compounds to colloidal and polymeric patch particles. Here, we perform kinetic Monte Carlo simulations to study the nucleation kinetics of particles with different ligancies z at constant supersaturation s. This approach allows one to determine several physico-chemical quantities as a function of s, including the growth probability P(n), the critical nucleus size n*, and the stationary nucleation rate J.

Real-time observation of the electrochemical mechanistic behavior at various scales offers new insightful information to improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). As complementary to the X-ray-based techniques and electron microscopy-based methodologies, neutron scattering provides additional and unique advantages in materials research, owing to the different interactions with atomic nuclei. The non-Z-dependent elemental contrast, in addition to the high penetration ability and weak interaction with matters, makes neutron scattering an advanced probing tool for the in operando mechanistic studies of LIBs.

Epidemiological studies have associated ozone exposure with cardiovascular diseases, but the molecular mechanisms were not elucidated. We performed an untargeted serum proteomic analysis in a randomized, crossover, controlled exposure trial. We recruited 32 healthy young adults and asked them to receive filtered air and 200-ppb ozone exposures for 2 h in a random order before serum collection.
