The exact moment method for the determination of the dispersion tensor in retentive porous media has been adopted to compute the dispersion coefficients, the plate height curves and the kinetic performance factors of eight different 3D printable stationary phases based on triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS). The two cases in which the stationary phase is impermeable (hydrodynamic dispersion) or superficially retentive have been analyzed in detail. The Carman-Kozeny relationship between permeability K, hydraulic diameter d and hydrodynamic tortuosity τ holds true for all the geometries investigated with a unique shape coefficient K.

Objective: To investigate differences in the microstructure of the spinothalamic tract (STT) white matter in people with chronic neck and shoulder pain (CNSP) using diffusion tensor imaging, and to assess its correlation with pain intensity and duration of the pain.

Materials And Methods: A 3.0T MRI scanner was used to perform diffusion tensor imaging scans on 31 people with CNSP and 24 healthy controls (HCs), employing the Automatic Fiber Segmentation and Quantification (AFQ) method to extract the STT and quantitatively analyze the fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD), reflecting the microstructural integrity of nerve fibers.

Age-related changes in the vestibulothalamic pathway: Association with balance ability and subjective visual vertical of vestibular function.

Brain Res Bull

January 2025

Department of Health, Graduate School, Dankook University, 119, Dandae-ro, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungnam 31116, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Introduction: The thalamus regulates various sensory information to each related brain area. The vestibular nucleus transmits information of motor control to the thalamus regulating coordination function. The vestibulothalamic tract (VTT) is a neural pathway between the vestibular nucleus and thalamus that processes vestibular information for postural balance and spatial perception.

Aims: To test utility of diffusion MRI-derived indices in carotid endarterectomy (CEA), change of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) metrics, cerebral white matter (WM) volumes were evaluated and predictors of overall mortality determined.

Methods: Prospectively enrolled participants had preoperative, immediate and late postoperative DTI after CEA. WM volumes, DTI metrics (fractional anisotropy, FA; axial, radial, mean diffusivities; AD, RD, MD, respectively) were calculated for the index/contralateral hemispheres at all time points.

In vivo imaging markers of glymphatic dysfunction in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Analysis of ALPS index and choroid plexus volume.

J Neurol Sci

January 2025

Department of Neurology, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Asan Medical Center, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Background: The glymphatic system, essential for brain waste clearance, has been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Emerging imaging markers, such as the analysis along the perivascular space (ALPS) index and choroid plexus volume (CPV), may provide insights into glymphatic function, but their relevance to ALS remains unclear.

Objective: To assess glymphatic dysfunction in ALS patients using the ALPS index and CPV.
