Typical path integral Monte Carlo approaches use the primitive approximation to compute the probability density for a given path. In this work, we develop the pair discrete variable representation (pair-DVR) approach to study molecular rotations. The pair propagator, which was initially introduced to study superfluidity in condensed helium, is naturally well-suited for systems interacting with a pairwise potential.

Transverse Momentum Distributions from Lattice QCD without Wilson Lines.

Phys Rev Lett

December 2024

Physics Division, Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, Illinois 60439, USA.

The transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (TMDs), which are defined by gauge-invariant 3D parton correlators with staple-shaped lightlike Wilson lines, can be calculated from quark and gluon correlators fixed in the Coulomb gauge on a Euclidean lattice. These quantities can be expressed gauge invariantly as the correlators of Coulomb-gauge-dressed fields, which reduce to the standard TMD correlators under principal-value prescription in the infinite boost limit. In the framework of large-momentum effective theory, a quasi-TMD defined from such correlators in a large-momentum hadron state can be matched to the TMD via a factorization formula, whose exact form is derived using soft collinear effective theory and verified at one-loop order.

In this work, we propose a path integral Monte Carlo approach based on discretized continuous degrees of freedom and rejection-free Gibbs sampling. The ground state properties of a chain of planar rotors with dipole-dipole interactions are used to illustrate the approach. Energetic and structural properties are computed and compared to exact diagonalization and numerical matrix multiplication for N ≤ 3 to assess the systematic Trotter factorization error convergence.

Thermodynamic constraints and exact scaling exponents of flocking matter.

We use advances in the formalism of boost agnostic passive fluids to constrain transport in polar active fluids, which are subsequently described by the Toner-Tu equations. Acknowledging that the system fundamentally breaks boost symmetry, we compel what were previously entirely phenomenological parameters in the Toner-Tu model to satisfy precise relationships among themselves. Consequently, we propose a thermodynamic argument to determine the scalings of the transport coefficients under dynamical renormalization group flow given that the scaling of the noise correlator is exact, as has been supported numerically.

Recent experiments on rhombohedral pentalayer graphene with a substrate-induced moiré potential have identified both Chern insulators and fractional quantum Hall states at zero magnetic field. Surprisingly, these states are observed in strong displacement fields where the effects of the moiré lattice are weak, and seem to be readily accessed without fine-tuning. To address these experimental puzzles, we study a model of interacting electrons in this geometry.
