Neuronal hyperexcitability in the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM), driven by oxidative stress, plays a crucial role in stress-induced hypertension (SIH). While resveratrol (RSV) is known for its antioxidant properties, its effects on RVLM neurons in SIH remain unclear. We investigated this using an SIH rat model exposed to electric foot shocks and noise stimulation for 15 days.

Fear is an adaptive response that protects individuals from potential threats, but when excessive, it can lead to mental health disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder. Oxytocin is a neuromodulator whose effects on fear processing have been explored, although research results are inconsistent. Previous research indicates that administering oxytocin before fear acquisition can enhance fear learning, while studies have suggested a potential for reducing fear generalization when oxytocin is given after fear acquisition.

Objectives: A negative wealth shock, defined as a loss of ≥75% in equivalized household total wealth over a short period, may cause adverse health outcomes for older adults. The individual-level risk factors for experiencing a negative wealth shock in later adulthood are unclear.
Methods: Data were from 25,072 adults aged ≥55 in the longitudinal, population-based US Health and Retirement Study from 1995 to 2020 (n = 123,651 observations across all study respondents).

Here, we present a protocol for cell-type-specific single-cell labeling and manipulation in Drosophila using a sparse driver system. We describe steps for generating constructs and fly lines, titrating heat-shocked durations for precise temporal control and desired sparsity, and co-expressing multiple transgenes for experiments. We demonstrate that this generalizable toolkit enables tunable sparsity, multi-color staining, single-cell trans-synaptic tracing, single-cell manipulation, and cell-autonomous gene function analysis.

Background: Cardiac herniation, especially right-sided herniation, is a fatal complication which causes sudden hypotension due to obstruction of the vena cava. Here, we describe a case of cardiac herniation identified without any symptoms after right extrapleural pneumonectomy performed for diffuse pleural mesothelioma.
Case Presentation: A 72-year-old man with diffuse pleural mesothelioma underwent a right extrapleural pneumonectomy after chemotherapy.
