Hadron-ion collisions in Pythia and the vector-meson dominance model for photoproduction.

Article Synopsis
  • The extension of the Pythia Monte Carlo event generator allows for detailed simulations of collisions between a hadron beam and nuclear targets, with energy variations for each event.
  • The work builds on existing models like Angantyr for heavy ions and includes a vector-meson dominance (VMD) model for simulating real photon interactions in photo-nuclear collisions.
  • Validation with HERA data shows the model's effectiveness, and the generated events for ultra-peripheral heavy-ion collisions at the LHC align with ATLAS measurements, demonstrating consistency in single-particle multiplicity and azimuthal anisotropy patterns.

Understanding gluon density distributions and how they are modified in nuclei are among the most important goals in nuclear physics. In recent years, diffractive vector meson production measured in ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) at heavy-ion colliders has provided a new tool for probing the gluon density. In this Letter, we report the first measurement of J/ψ photoproduction off the deuteron in UPCs at the center-of-mass energy sqrt[s_{NN}]=200  GeV in d+Au collisions.

Hadronic vacuum polarization and vector-meson resonance parameters from .

Eur Phys J C Part Fields

Helmholtz-Institut für Strahlen- und Kernphysik (Theorie) and Bethe Center for Theoretical Physics, Universität Bonn, 53115 Bonn, Germany.

We study the reaction based on a dispersive representation of the underlying transition form factor. As a first application, we evaluate the contribution of the channel to the hadronic-vacuum-polarization correction to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. We find , in line with evaluations from the direct integration of the data.

Next-to-Leading Order Computation of Exclusive Diffractive Light Vector Meson Production in a Saturation Framework.

Phys Rev Lett

August 2017

Laboratoire de Physique Théorique (UMR 8627), CNRS, Univ. Paris-Sud, Université Paris-Saclay, 91405 Orsay Cedex, France and UPMC Univ. Paris 06, Faculté de Physique, 4 place Jussieu, 75252 Paris Cedex 05, France.

We perform the first next-to-leading order computation of the γ^{(*)}→V (ρ,ϕ,ω) exclusive impact factor in the QCD shock-wave approach and in the most general kinematics. This paves the way to the very first quantitative study of high-energy nucleon and nucleus saturation beyond the leading order for a whole range of small-x exclusive processes, to be measured in ep, eA, pp, and pA collisions at existing and future colliders.

The COMPASS Collaboration at CERN has measured diffractive dissociation of 190  GeV/c pions into the π(-)π(-)π(+) final state using a stationary hydrogen target. A partial-wave analysis (PWA) was performed in bins of 3π mass and four-momentum transfer using the isobar model and the so far largest PWA model consisting of 88 waves. A narrow peak is observed in the f0(980)π channel with spin, parity and C-parity quantum numbers J(PC)=1(++).
