Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Pentara Corporation, Salt Lake City, UT, USA.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) presents unique challenges in clinical trials involving small molecules. Multifaceted issues plague such trials, emphasizing susceptibility to fraud from clinical sites and "professional patients". The relative ease of simulating Alzheimer's diagnosis, coupled with inadequate oversight by Contract Research Organizations (CROs), creates fertile ground for deceptive practices.

Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen e. V. (DZNE), Rostock, Germany.

Background: Participatory research or patient and public involvement refer to the process of actively involving people with lived experience into the research process to improve its relevance, quality, and impact. In the PART project we aim to establish a sustainable structure to include underrepresented patient groups with neurodegenerative diseases into a patient advisory board for research. As one of our milestones, we conducted a systematic literature review with the aim of examining the impact of participatory research on people involved, such as those with cognitive impairment, caregivers, and researchers.

Background: Orthostatic headache (OH) is a common feature of various conditions, including spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH), but no precise definition currently exists outlining the typical OH characteristics. This ambiguity risks misdiagnosis with unnecessary investigations and delay in institution of treatment. The present study aimed to carry out structured phenotyping of OH in patients with SIH with the aim of outlining its typical characteristics.

Objective: Trauma survivors are more likely than others to use cannabis, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) commonly co-occurs with cannabis use disorder (CUD). Automatic memory associations between trauma reminders and cannabis use have been suggested as contributing mechanisms. These associations can be studied experimentally by manipulating trauma cue exposure in a cue-reactivity paradigm (CRP) and examining effects on the accessibility of cannabis information in memory in trauma survivors with and without PTSD.
