This study investigates the nonlinear dynamics of a system with frequency-dependent stiffness using a MEMS-based capacitive inertial sensor as a case study. The sensor is positioned directly on a rotating component of a machine and consists of a microbeam clamped at both ends by fixed supports with a fixed central proof mass. The nonlinear behavior is determined by electrostatic forces, axial and bending motion coupling, and frequency-dependent stiffness.

Ab initio calculations of electric field gradients (EFGs) in molecular crystals have advanced significantly due to the gauge including projector augmented wave (GIPAW) formalism, which accounts for the infinite periodicity in crystals. However, theoretical accuracies still lag behind experimental ones, making it challenging to distinguish experimentally distinguishable similar structures, a deficiency largely attributed to the limitation of GIPAW codes to generalized gradient approximation (GGA) density functional theory (DFT) functionals. In this study, we investigate whether hybrid DFT functionals can enhance the EFG calculation accuracy and the associated geometry optimization.

Currently, most peripheral nerve injuries are incurable mainly due to excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in inflammatory tissues, which can further exacerbate localized tissue injury and cause chronic diseases. Although promising for promoting nerve regeneration, stem cell therapy still suffers from abundant intrinsic limitations, mainly including excessive ROS in lesions and inefficient production of growth factors (GFs). Biomaterials that scavenge endogenous ROS and promote GFs secretion might overcome such limitations and thus are being increasingly investigated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTight sandstone gas reservoirs are characterized by high water saturation, significant seepage resistance, low single-well productivity, rapid decline, and low gas recovery. Enhancing the recovery rate of tight sandstone gas reservoirs is a complex engineering challenge that necessitates thorough, refined, and systematic research into its fundamental theories. This study employs a comprehensive approach integrating mercury injection, nuclear magnetic resonance, micro-model visualization, and simulation experiments of displacement and inter-layer seepage flow, alongside foundational seepage theories, to systematically explore the characteristics of tight sandstone gas reservoirs, seepage patterns, and methods for improving gas recovery.

The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) is a pentameric ligand-gated ion channel (pLGIC) commonly used as a model for receptors belonging to the Cys-loop superfamily. Members of pLGICs are standardly used in numerous toxicological investigations e.g.
