A single nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in a diamond can be used as a nanoscale sensor for magnetic field, electric field or nuclear spins. Due to its low photon detection efficiency, such sensing processes often take a long time, suffering from an electron spin resonance (ESR) frequency fluctuation induced by the time-varying thermal perturbations noise. Thus, suppressing the thermal noise is the fundamental way to enhance single-sensor performance, which is typically achieved by utilizing a thermal control protocol with a complicated and highly costly apparatus if a millikelvin-level stabilization is required.

Struts of a superconducting YBaCuO (YBCO) foam prepared by the infiltration growth method on the base of commercial polyurethane foams were extracted from the bulk, and thoroughly characterized concerning the microstructure and the magnetoresistance, measured by the four-point technique. Optical microscopy, electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction and atomic force microscopy observations indicate a unique microstructure of the foam struts which shows a large amount of tiny YBaCuO (Y-211) particles (with diameters between 50 and 100 nm) being enclosed in channel-like grain boundaries between the YBCO grains and a one-of-a-kind surface of the struts covered with BaCuO-particles. The resistance data obtained at temperatures in the range 4.

Policosanol supplementation has been reported to increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol (HDL-C). However, the association between Cuban policosanol supplementation and HDL cholesterol efflux capacity (CEC), an important function of HDL, remains unclear. We performed a lipoprotein analysis investigating 32 Japanese healthy participants (placebo, = 17 or policosanol supplementation for 12 weeks, = 15) from a randomized Cuban policosanol clinical trial.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a 1% brinzolamide and 0.1% brimonidine fixed combination (BBFC) on ONH blood flow (BF) in rabbits.
Methods: A crossover study was conducted on pigmented rabbits; a physiological saline solution, brinzolamide, or BBFC was administered for eight days.

Topological defects are increasingly being identified in various biological systems, where their characteristic flow fields and stress patterns are associated with continuous active stress generation by biological entities. Here, using numerical simulations of continuum fluctuating nematohydrodynamics, we show that even in the absence of any specific form of active stresses associated with self-propulsion, mesoscopic fluctuations in either orientational alignment or hydrodynamics can independently result in flow patterns around topological defects that resemble the ones observed in active systems. Our simulations further show the possibility of extensile- and contractile-like motion of fluctuation-induced positive half-integer topological defects.
