Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDCs) can be combined with organic semiconductors to form hybrid van der Waals heterostructures. Specially, non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) stand out due to their excellent absorption and exciton diffusion properties. Here, we couple monolayer tungsten diselenide (ML-WSe) with two well performing NFAs, ITIC, and IT-4F (fluorinated ITIC) to achieve hybrid architectures.

Herein, we propose a purely-organic donor-acceptor (D-A) molecular triad, with a light-absorbing polarized molecular wire (PMW) used as a central linkage, as a proof of concept for the possible future applications of the D-PMW-A arrangement in molecular photovoltaics. This work builds upon our earlier study on the PMW unit itself, which proved to be highly promising for the ultrafast photogeneration of free charge carriers. Quantum-chemical calculations performed for the D-PMW-A triad at a semi-empirical level of theory reveal a large electric dipole moment of the system, and show strong charge-transfer (CT) character of its lowest-energy excited electronic states, including the , which favours efficient dissociation of an exciton initially formed upon the absorption of light.

We demonstrate all-optical modulation with a near-unity contrast of nonlinear light generation in a dielectric metasurface. We study third-harmonic generation from silicon Fano-resonant metasurfaces excited by femtosecond pulses at 1480 nm wavelength. We modulate the metasurface resonance by free carrier excitation induced by absorption of an 800 nm pump pulse, leading to up to 93% suppression of third-harmonic generation.

The ultrafast dynamics of subnanometer neutral cuprite clusters (CuO), < 13, are examined with pump probe spectroscopy. Upon absorption of an ultraviolet (400 nm) photon, all clusters exhibit a subpicosecond lifetime that we attribute to carrier recombination. Density functional theory (DFT) shows a change in the structural motif between small planar clusters and three-dimensional structures at = 4.

Prolonging hot carrier cooling, a crucial factor in optoelectronic applications, including hot carrier photovoltaics, presents a significant challenge. High-energy band-nesting excitons within parallel bands offer a promising and underexplored avenue for addressing this issue. Here, we exploit an exceptional D exciton cooling prolongation of 2 to 3 orders of magnitude compared to sub-picosecond in typical transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) owing to the complex Coulomb environment and the sequential and mismatch-valley relaxation.
