Aging has a significant impact on brain structure, demonstrated by numerous MRI studies using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). While these studies reveal changes in fractional anisotropy (FA) across different brain regions, they tend to focus on white matter tracts and cognitive regions, often overlooking gray matter and motor areas. Additionally, traditional DTI metrics can be affected by partial volume effects.

A Negative Capacitance Field-Effect Transistor with High Rectification Efficiency for Weak-Energy 2.45 GHz Microwave Wireless Transmission.

Micromachines (Basel)

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Wide-Bandgap Semiconductor Devices and lntegrated Technology, School of Microelectronics, Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology, Xi'an 710071, China.

This paper proposes and designs a silicon-based negative capacitance field effect transistor (NCFET) to replace conventional MOSFETs as the rectifying device in RF-DC circuits, aiming to enhance the rectification efficiency under low-power density conditions. By combining theoretical analysis with device simulations, the impacts of the ferroelectric material anisotropy, ferroelectric layer thickness, and active region doping concentration on the device performance were systematically optimized. The proposed NCFET structure is tailored for microwave wireless power transmission applications.

Optimizing TMS dosimetry: evaluating the effective electric field as a novel metric.

Phys Med Biol

January 2025

Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications (DIET) , University of Rome La Sapienza, Via Eudossiana 18, Rome, 00184, ITALY.

Objective: This study introduces the effective electric field (Eeff) as a novel observable for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) numerical dosimetry. Eeff represents the electric field component aligned with the local orientation of cortical and white matter neuronal elements. To assess the utility of Eeff as a predictive measure for TMS outcomes, we evaluated its correlation with TMS induced muscle responses and compared it against conventional observables, including the electric (E-)field magnitude, and its components normal and tangential to the cortical surface.

The present work investigates the interfacial and atomic layer-dependent mechanical properties, SOC-entailing phonon band structure, and comprehensive electron-topological-elastic integration of ZrTe and NiTe. The anisotropy of Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, and shear modulus are analyzed using density functional theory with the TB-mBJ approximation. NiTe has higher mechanical property values and greater anisotropy than ZrTe.

Raman and Photoluminescence Studies of Quasiparticles in van der Waals Materials.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

January 2025

Hunan Key Laboratory of Super-Microstructure and Ultrafast Process, School of Physics, Central South University, Changsha 410083, China.

Two-dimensional (2D) layered materials have received much attention due to the unique properties stemming from their van der Waals (vdW) interactions, quantum confinement, and many-body interactions of quasi-particles, which drive their exotic optical and electronic properties, making them critical in many applications. Here, we review our past years' findings, focusing on many-body interactions in 2D layered materials, including phonon anharmonicity, electron-phonon coupling (), exciton dynamics, and phonon anisotropy based on temperature (polarization)-dependent Raman spectroscopy and Photoluminescence (PL). Our review sheds light on the role of quasi-particles in tuning the material properties, which could help optimize 2D materials for future applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices.
