Black phosphorus (BP), a promising two-dimensional material, faces significant challenges for its applications due to its instability in air and water. Herein, molecular dynamics simulations reveal that a self-assembled ferrocene (FeCp) molecular layer can form on BP surfaces and remain stable in aqueous environments, predicting its effectiveness for passivation. This theoretical finding is corroborated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and optical microscopy observations.

Atmospheric Deposition of Microplastics in South Central Appalachia in the United States.

ACS EST Air

January 2025

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia 24061, United States.

Due to the increased prevalence of plastic pollution globally, atmospheric deposition of microplastics (MPs) is a significant issue that needs to be better understood to identify potential consequences for human health. This study is the first to quantify and characterize atmospheric MP deposition in the Eastern United States. Passive sampling was conducted at two locations within the Eastern United States, specifically in remote South Central Appalachia, from March to September 2023.

Key Laboratory of Optical Technology and Instrument for Medicine, Ministry of Education, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, 200093 Shanghai, China.

Lung cancer with heterogeneity has a high mortality rate due to its late-stage detection and chemotherapy resistance. Liquid biopsy that discriminates tumor-related biomarkers in body fluids has emerged as an attractive technique for early-stage and accurate diagnosis. Exosomes, carrying membrane and cytosolic information from original tumor cells, impart themselves endogeneity and heterogeneity, which offer extensive and unique advantages in the field of liquid biopsy for cancer differential diagnosis.

Biochemical components of corneal stroma: a study on myopia classification based on Raman spectroscopy and deep learning methods.

Biomed Opt Express

January 2025

Center for Biomedical-photonics and Molecular Imaging, Advanced Diagnostic-Therapy Technology and Equipment Key Laboratory of Higher Education Institutions in Shaanxi Province, School of Life Science and Technology, Xidian University, Xi'an, Shaanxi 710126, China.

The study aimed to identify differences in the biochemical composition of corneal stroma lenses across varying degrees of myopia using Raman spectrum characteristics. Corneal stroma lens samples from 38 patients who underwent small incision lens extraction (SMILE) surgery, were categorized into low (n = 9, spherical power -3.00D), moderate (n = 23, spherical power < -3.

Assessment of Surgical Margin of Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma via Raman Mapping.

Oral Dis

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases & National Center for Stomatology & National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases & Department of Head and Neck Oncology Surgery, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Objectives: This study introduces a novel classification approach that combines convolutional neural network (CNN) and Raman mapping to differentiate between tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) and non-tumorous tissue, as well as to identify different histological grades of TSCC.

Materials And Methods: In this study, 240 Raman mappings data from 30 tissue samples were collected from 15 patients who had undergone surgical resection for TSCC. A total of 18,000 sub-mappings extracted from Raman mappings were then used to train and test a CNN model, which extracted feature representations that were subsequently processed through a fully connected network to perform classification tasks based on the Raman mapping data.
