Coupling a recurrent neural network to SPAD TCSPC systems for real-time fluorescence lifetime imaging.

Sci Rep

Advanced Quantum Architecture Laboratory, École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, Neuchâtel, 2002, Switzerland.

Fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLI) has been receiving increased attention in recent years as a powerful diagnostic technique in biological and medical research. However, existing FLI systems often suffer from a tradeoff between processing speed, accuracy, and robustness. Inspired by the concept of Edge Artificial Intelligence (Edge AI), we propose a robust approach that enables fast FLI with no degradation of accuracy.

Spatially-structured laser beams, eventually carrying orbital angular momentum, affect electronic transitions of atoms and their motional states in a complex way. We present a general framework, based on the spherical tensor decomposition of the interaction Hamiltonian, for computing atomic transition matrix elements for light fields of arbitrary spatial mode and polarization structures. We study both the bare electronic matrix elements, corresponding to transitions with no coupling to the atomic center-of-mass motion, as well as the matrix elements describing the coupling to the quantized atomic motion in the resolved side-band regime.

Dynamics of System States in the Probability Representation of Quantum Mechanics.

Entropy (Basel)

May 2023

Lebedev Physical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, Leninskii Prospect 53, Moscow 119991, Russia.

A short description of the notion of states of quantum systems in terms of conventional probability distribution function is presented. The notion and the structure of entangled probability distributions are clarified. The evolution of even and odd Schrödinger cat states of the inverted oscillator is obtained in the center-of-mass tomographic probability description of the two-mode oscillator.

Two-dimensional Thouless pumping of light in photonic moiré lattices.

Nat Commun

November 2022

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication Systems and Networks, School of Physics and Astronomy, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, 200240, China.

Continuous and quantized transports are profoundly different. The latter is determined by the global rather than local properties of a system, it exhibits unique topological features, and its ubiquitous nature causes its occurrence in many areas of science. Here we report the first observation of fully-two-dimensional Thouless pumping of light by bulk modes in a purpose-designed tilted moiré lattices imprinted in a photorefractive crystal.

Spontaneous Exciton Collapse in a Strongly Flattened Ellipsoidal InSb Quantum Dot.

Nanoscale Res Lett

August 2022

Department of Mathematics and Physics, North Carolina Central University, 1801 Fayetteville St., Durham, NC, 27707, USA.

Electronic and excitonic states in an InSb strongly flattened ellipsoidal quantum dot (QD) with complicated dispersion law are theoretically investigated within the framework of the geometric adiabatic approximation in the strong, intermediate, and weak quantum confinement regimes. For the lower levels of the spectrum, the square root dependence of energy on QD sizes is revealed in the case of Kane's dispersion law. The obtained results are compared to the case of a parabolic (standard) dispersion law of charge carriers.
