Shark skin features superhydrophilic and riblet-textured denticles that provide drag reduction, antifouling, and mechanical protection. The artificial riblet structures exhibit drag reduction capabilities in turbulent flow. However, the effects of the surface wettability of shark denticles and the cavity region underneath the denticle crown on drag reduction remain insufficiently explored.

Vortex beams are currently drawing a great deal of interest, from fundamental research to several promising applications. While their generation in bulky optical devices limits their use in integrated complex systems, metasurfaces have recently proven successful in creating optical vortices, especially in the linear regime. In the nonlinear domain, of strategic importance for the future of classical and quantum information, to date orbital angular momentum has only been created in qualitative ways, without discussing discrepancies between design and experimental results.

Aortic valve replacements, both surgical and transcatheter, are nowadays widely employed treatments. Although clinically effective, these procedures are correlated with potentially severe clinical complications which can be associated with the non-physiological haemodynamics that they establish. In this work, the fluid dynamics changes produced by surgical and transcatheter aortic valve replacements are analysed and compared with an ideal healthy native valve configuration, employing advanced fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulations.

Chiral vortices and their phase transition in ferroelectric/dielectric heterostructures have drawn significant attention in the field of condensed matter. However, the dynamical origin of the chiral phase transition from achiral to chiral polar vortices has remained elusive. Here, we develop a phase-field perturbation model and discover the softening of out-of-plane vibration mode of polar vortices in [(PbTiO)/(SrTiO)] superlattices at a critical epitaxial strain or temperature.

The Imaging Science Subsystem onboard the Cassini spacecraft recorded numerous high-quality images of Jupiter and Saturn at various wavelengths, from ultraviolet to near-infrared, during its 20-year mission from 1997 to 2017. Using these images, we have developed global maps of Jupiter and Saturn across multiple wavelengths. These maps reveal the global atmospheric structures of Jupiter and Saturn, offering a comprehensive tool to study the physical and dynamic processes of these atmospheric systems on a global scale.
