Synergistic Additive-Assisted Growth of 2D Ternary In SnS with Giant Gate-Tunable Polarization-Sensitive Photoresponse.

Small

May 2021

State Key Laboratory of Materials Processing and Die & Mould Technology, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, 430074, P. R. China.

2D ternary materials exhibit great promise in the field of polarization-sensitive photodetectors due to the low-symmetry crystal structure. However, the realization of ternary material growth is still a huge challenge because of the complex reaction process. Here, for the first time, 2D ternary In SnS flakes are obtained via synergistic additive of salt and molecular sieve-assisted chemical vapor deposition.

We present a compact in situ electromagnet with an active cooling system for use in ultrahigh vacuum environments. The active cooling enhances the thermal stability and increases the electric current that can be applied through the coil, promoting the generation of homogeneous magnetic fields, required for applications in real-time deposition experiments. The electromagnet has been integrated into a reflectance difference magneto-optic Kerr effect (RD-MOKE) spectroscopy system that allows the synchronous measurement of the optical anisotropy and the magneto-optic response in polar MOKE geometry.

Noncentrosymmetric monolayers (MLs) of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) and their 3-type vertical stacks provide an ideal platform for studying atomic-scale nonlinear light-matter interaction in terms of second harmonic generation (SHG). Unlike the case of MLs, SHG from artificial stacks can be nontrivially affected by interlayer coupling and band offset between the constituent MLs, where the latter occurs for band-gap-engineered vertical heterostructures (VHs). In order to study these effects, we produced different sets of 3-type homobilayers (homo-BLs) and heterobilayers (hetero-BLs) composed of MoS and its ternary alloy MoSSe.

Timely monitoring of global plant biogeochemical processes demands fast and highly accurate estimation of plant nutrition status, which is often estimated based on hyperspectral data. However, few such studies have been conducted on degraded vegetation. In this study, complete combinations of either original reflectance or first-order derivative spectra have been developed to quantify leaf nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) contents of tree, shrub, and grass species using hyperspectral datasets from light, moderate, and severely degraded vegetation sites in Helin County, China.

Low-symmetry two-dimensional (2D) materials with unique in-plane anisotropy can promote both fundamental science and practical applications in optics, optoelectronics, electronics, and polarization detection. As a member of 2D materials, doping/alloying material systems have gained great attention owing to the tunable bandgap and special properties. However, the in-plane anisotropic optical and electrical properties of these 2D alloy materials have rarely been reported.
