Thick metamorphic buffers are considered indispensable for III-V semiconductor heteroepitaxy on large lattice and thermal-expansion mismatched silicon substrates. However, III-nitride buffers in conventional GaN-on-Si high electron mobility transistors (HEMT) impose a substantial thermal resistance, deteriorating device efficiency and lifetime by throttling heat extraction. To circumvent this, a systematic methodology for the direct growth of GaN after the AlN nucleation layer on six-inch silicon substrates is demonstrated using metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE).

In this research, the effect of different plasticizers with different amounts on the properties of monolithic alumina-based refractories has been investigated. All samples were fired at 1100 °C and 1550 °C. In order to evaluate the desired properties, first the rheological properties of the samples were examined, and then for further investigations, loss on ignition (LOI), percentage of permanent linear changes (PLC), apparent porosity (AP), bulk density (BD) and cold crushing strength (CCS) tests were used.

Magnesium oxide (MgO) is known for its bioactivity and osteoconductivity when incorporated into biodegradable poly(lactic acid) (PLA), whereas the weak interfacial bonding between MgO microspheres (mMPs) and PLA often leads to suboptimal composite properties with uncontrollable functionality. Conjugation of mMPs with PLA may offer a good way to enhance their compatibility. In this study, we systematically investigated two grafting techniques, solution grafting (Sol) and melt grafting (Mel), to decorate poly (D-lactic acid) (PDLA) on mMPs pre-treated by prioritized hydration to obtain Sol MPs and Mel MPs, in order to optimize the grafting efficiency and improve their controllability in the properties including the crystal structure and surface morphology.

Over the past two decades, it has become clear that against earlier assumptions, the respiratory tract is regularly populated by a variety of microbiota even down to the lowest parts of the lungs. New methods and technologies revealed distinct microbiome compositions and developmental trajectories in the differing parts of the respiratory tract of neonates and infants. In this review, we describe the current understanding of respiratory microbiota development in human neonates and highlight multiple factors that have been identified to impact human respiratory microbiome development including gestational age, mode of delivery, diet, antibiotic treatment, and early infections.

Background: Nepal piloted a multipronged supervision, performance assessment, and recognition strategy (SPARS), to improve medicines management (MM) in public health facilities. This paper describes the SPARS pilot intervention and reports on MM performance at baseline.
Methods: To build MM capacity at public sector health facilities, health workers were trained as MM supervisors to visit and supervise government health facilities, assess MM performance, and use the findings to provide support in MM practices.
