[Vitamin D status in connection with and genes polymorphism in coal mining workers].

Vitamin D is a unique compound that can enter the human body not only with food, but also be synthesized in the skin under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. Individual differences in the need for this vitamin may be associated with the carriage of polymorphic variants of genes that implement its biological effects, which include VDR BsmI C>T (rs1544410), VDR TaqI A>G (rs731236) and GC rs2282679 T>G. At risk for vitamin D deficiency are workers in the coal mining industry, whose working conditions combine limited insolation and a pronounced deficiency of vitamins in the diet.

Growing, Structure and Optical Properties of LiNbO:B Crystals, a Material for Laser Radiation Transformation.

Physical and chemical properties have been studied in lithium niobate (LiNbO, LN) crystals grown by Czochralski from a boron doped melt. Optical uniformity and optical damage resistance of LiNbO:B crystals have been compared with control crystals of nominally pure congruent (CLN) and near-stoichiometric (NSLN KO) composition. LiNbO:B crystals structure has been studied.

Polymorphisms in DNA repair genes in lung cancer patients living in a coal-mining region.

Air pollutants and ionizing radiation are well-known carcinogens involved in the pathogenesis of lung cancer, and residents of coal-mining regions are exposed routinely to these agents. Polymorphisms in DNA repair genes may be associated with an increased risk of malignant transformation. We investigated associations between the risk of lung cancer in residents of the coal-mining region and polymorphisms in the genes APEX1 (rs1130409), hOGG1 (rs1052133), XRCC1 (rs25489, rs25487), XRCC2 (rs3218536), XRCC3 (rs861539), ADPRT/PARP1 (rs1136410), XPD/ERCC2 (rs13181), XPG/ERCC5 (rs17655), XPC (rs2228001), ATM (rs1801516), and NBS1 (rs1805794).

Polymorphisms of GSTM1, GSTT1, GSTP1 genes and chromosomal aberrations in lung cancer patients.

Purpose: To study the potential links between genetic polymorphisms in the GSTT1, GSTM1, GSTP1 genes and the frequency of chromosomal aberrations (CAs) in lung cancer patients and healthy residents in Russian Federation.

Methods: 200 cells in well-spread metaphase with 46 chromosomes were examined for 353 newly diagnosed lung cancer patients (males) who received medical treatment in the Kemerovo Regional Oncology Center (Kemerovo, Russian Federation), and 300 healthy males from Kemerovo, Russian Federation. The polymorphisms of the GSTM1 del and GSTT1 del genes were analysed by multiplex PCR.

Chromosome aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes of lung cancer patients exposed to radon and air pollution.

Lung cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer. The aim of this study was to validate chromosome aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes of lung cancer patients living in a region with high air pollution and increased background radon levels as a biomarker of cancer risk. A total of 417 lung cancer patients and 468 control participants were analysed using a chromosome aberration assay in peripheral blood lymphocytes.

[Modern methods of examination of ballistic trauma after passing through the barrier].

On the basis of experimental data were studied peculiarities of ballistic of wounds after passing barriers. Authors analyzed forensic medical examination reports concerned about murdered and wounded with gunshots in Saint Petersburg. As research objects were used: simulators of biological materials (block of glycerin soap) and experimental animals.

[Aspects of development of surgical service of modem Navy].

The article is devoted to the aspects of a current state of surgical service in the Navy, prospects of development of professianl training for navy surgeons, formation of modern training comlex, united electronic library, containig the issues about combat surgical trauma, software technologies, realizing of the application methodology during the process of training and practical activity for the development of the training system for surgeons of Navy and improvement of effectiveness. Formation of normative technical documents, regulating activity of navy surgians is also among the expectations. The authors also touched on the issues of development of modern technologies in bone grafting with the help of domestic implants based on the osteoinductive nanostructured nonorganic matrices (titanium) with defined structure and composition.

[The blast injury as a result of underwater explosion].

Experiments on pigs were made for determination of safe distance to blast center for a diver using the isolating breathing apparatus IDA-71U and aqualung AVM-5. The animals were placed at the distance 12, 9, 7 and 5 m from the blast center. After the explosion, basic physiological parameters and severity of traumas were monitored.

[Surgical procedure in pancreatic cysts and fistulae].

The authors have generalized the experience with the treatment of 11 cases of pancreatic cysts and 4 cases of external pancreatic fistulas. The anastomosis with hollow organs (7 cases) has proved to be a method of choice in the surgery of pseudocysts. In authors' opinion, the internal drainage creates favourable conditions for persistent decompression of the duct system, promotes the obliteration of the cyst and the attenuation of inflammatory process in the pancreas, while the external drainage of the cyst is indicated in fresh cysts with a loose easily tearing capsule, when anastomosis is impossible for technical reasons.
