Aim: To study efficacy and tolerance of cardioselective beta-adrenoblocker lokren (betaxolol) in elderly patients with mild and moderate hypertension.
Materials And Methods: 25 elderly (mean age 70.2 +/- 1.
Aim: Assessment of the antihypertensive effect of doxazosin, alpha-1 blocker, as well as its action on lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, microcirculation and platelet function in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM).
Materials And Methods: Doxazosin (tonocardin) treatment was given for 11 weeks to 33 NIDDM patients with concomitant hypertension. The clinical examination comprised evaluation of central hemodynamics, vessels of the fundus of eye, lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, renal function, platelet aggregation.
A nutritional additive eikonol containing polyunsaturated fatty acids omega-3 was given for a month (8 g/day) to correct vascular complications in 60 patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Eikonol-treated NIDDM patients with diabetic retinopathy, polyneuropathy, angiopathy of the legs combining with arterial hypertension exhibited a reduction in the levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, low and very low density lipoproteins cholesterol, a rise in concentrations of high density lipoproteins cholesterol. Blood pressure went down, peripheral vascular resistance and microhemocirculation improved.

The results of administration of eikonol, food additive containing omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids, for 3 months were analyzed for 60 elderly NIDDM patients with ischemic heart disease. A single administration of eikonol leads to a decrease in accumulation of intracellular cholesterol by 15%.

The patients were divided into 3 groups: (1) those receiving glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) (n = 43); (2) those on isosorbide dinitrate (ISDN) (n = 66); (3) those on isosorbide-5-mononitrate (IS-5-MN) (n = 71). In all the groups, the drugs were given by long-term continuous oligovolumic infusion.

It was found that the heart muscle responded as a whole to the RV overload in PABE, with the structural and functional changes of both ventricles.

Mobilization of nonfunctioning capillaries in the healthy myocardium was revealed in the early postembolism period. Compensatory reaction of the thebesian drainage from the 1st to 7th day after the embolism was demonstrated.
