Methamphetamine deaths: Changing trends and diagnostic issues.

The term 'amphetamine' refers to a class of synthetic drugs which includes methamphetamine. The latter is a globally popular drug of abuse which induces euphoria, affecting cognitive/psychomotor performance and sleep. It also provokes risk taking and violent behaviour.

Ring-Closing Metathesis on Commercial Scale: Synthesis of HCV Protease Inhibitor Simeprevir.

The key macrocyclization step in the synthesis of simeprevir, a hepatitis C virus (HCV) antiviral drug, was studied. N-Boc substitution on the diene precursor changes the site of insertion of the metathesis catalyst and, consequently, the kinetic model of the ring closing metathesis (RCM), enabling a further increase in the macrocyclization efficiency under simulated high dilution (SHD) conditions. NMR of the inserted species of both first and second generation RCM catalysts are reported and discussed.

A Human Proximal Tubular Epithelial Cell Model to Explore a Knowledge Gap on Neonatal Drug Disposition.

Background: Finding the right drug-dosage for neonates is still a challenge. Until now, neonatal doses are extrapolated from adults and children doses. However, there are differences between neonatal and adult kidney physiology that should be considered, especially when it comes to drug metabolism and/or transport.

Characterizing the role of the neuropeptide substance P in experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Background: Raised intracranial pressure (ICP) following SAH predicts poor outcome and is due to hemorrhage volume and possibly, brain edema, hydrocephalus and increased volume of circulating intracranial blood. Interventions that reduce edema may therefore reduce ICP and improve outcome. The neuropeptide substance P (SP) mediates vasogenic edema formation in animal models of ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage and brain trauma, and may contribute to development of increased ICP.
