Objective: To retrospectively evaluate the prevalence and clinical and laboratory characteristics of anemia in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Methods: We performed an observational, descriptive, retrospective study in patients with IBD followed-up between 2002 and 2004 in our center.
Results: A total of 253 patients were included.
Meckel's diverticulum is the most prevalent congenital abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract. Bleeding from Meckel's diverticulum is the most common clinical presentation, especially in childhood. In adults, manifestations include a broad spectrum of symptoms ranging from an incidental finding in surgery, iron deficiency anemia of unknown etiology, and acute abdomen due to mechanical complications of the diverticulum.
