Production and Characterization of Silk Fibroin- Hydrogel: A Study on Extraction, Hydrogel Properties, and Release Mechanism.

This work investigated the production and characterization of a silk fibroin (SF) hydrogel incorporated with an (AV) extract. Four extraction methods, ultrasound-assisted extraction with bath and probe, stirring, and Soxhlet, were tested, while the hydrogel was produced by a one-step freeze-thaw method. Besides the extraction yield, the antioxidant capacity of the extracts was accessed, which allowed to select the extract obtained by ultrasound-assisted extraction to be incorporated into the hydrogels.

Bats comprise one of the most diverse and abundant groups of mammals in the world and host a significant viral diversity with zoonotic potential. Bat adenoviruses (bat AdVs), members of the family Adenoviridae, have been detected in several bat species, suggesting that bats are natural reservoirs. Here, faeces and rectal/anal-swabs were collected from 321 bats of an urban Atlantic Forest remnant from Rio de Janeiro, during 2019-2022, and screened for bat AdV nucleic acid with PCR.

While its management is limited to supportive care, the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) on AKI remain a subject of conflicting animal research. This study aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze HBO's effects on renal function biomarkers serum creatinine (SCr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) in murine AKI models, also exploring tissue-level nephroprotection.

The objective was to investigate the impact of external clinical, epidemiological, and climatic factors on norovirus detection rates in samples from children under 5 years of age from Roraima, the Amazon region of Brazil. A total of 941 samples were included.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with a series of mineral bone disturbances due to increased production of parathormone which increases the activity of osteoclasts, removing calcium and phosphorous from the bones. However, the literature lacks investigations on the feasibility of different resistance training (RT) methods, such as cluster-sets, in this population. Thus, the aim of the present study was to compare traditional versus cluster-set RT protocols on bone mineral density (BMD) T-score, BMD Total, femur BMD, L3-L4 BMD, femoral neck BMD, Klotho, FGF23, Klotho - FGF23 ratio, Sclerostin, vitamin D, phosphorous and calcium in older subjects with CKD.
