A huge challenge after the emergence of COVID-19 has been the discovery of effective antiviral drugs. Although remdesivir (RDV) emerged as one of the most promising drugs, its pharmaceutical formulation Veklury® is limited by moderate efficacy, high toxicity and need for parenteral administration. The aim of the present work was to develop a liposomal formulation of RDV for pulmonary administration and evaluate its efficacy in models of COVID-19.

Intestinal parasites of the genus are the most prevalent in coproparasitological examinations and necropsies of dogs in Brazil. Although adult dogs often remain asymptomatic when infected, there is limited published information concerning the laboratory and clinical findings and severity of infection in symptomatic adult dogs. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize the clinical and laboratory findings of adult -infected dogs.

Aim: Calcium silicate-based cements have been widely used in dentistry mainly due to their physicochemical and biological properties. Commercially available materials use radiopacifiers containing metals (bismuth, tantalum, tungsten and/or zirconium). To investigate volumetric changes, in vivo biocompatibility and systemic migration from eight commercially available materials, including powder/liquid and 'ready-to-use' presentations.

Introduction: Osteomyelitis is an inflammatory condition of the bone with a multifactorial etiology, including trauma and odontogenic infections. Despite being a common condition in clinical practice, limited research exists on the clinical and pathological profile of Osteomyelitis of the Jaws (OJ). This 51-year retrospective study aimed to describe the clinical, radiographic, and histopathological features of OJ diagnosed at a single oral pathology referral center.

Background: Sedentary work is a potential health risk factor and may exacerbate painful complaints, while physical activity may serve as a preventive factor for the onset and worsening of musculoskeletal disorders. However, there is scarce evidence on how engaging in leisure physical activity may influence the reporting of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) symptoms.

Objective: To assess the association between the level of physical activity and TMD symptoms in office workers.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to estimate heritability for various growth and reproductive traits in snails (Cornu aspersum maximum) from 60 to 150 days old using Bayesian analysis.
  • The heritability estimates for weight gain during different age periods showed values ranging from 0.32 to 0.60, with environmental factors primarily affecting pre-slaughter body weight.
  • The study found significant genetic correlations between weight gain periods, suggesting that selecting for weight gain in earlier stages (WG1) could improve future gains in the population.

  • * Biological tests demonstrated that the extract can reduce venom-induced neuromuscular blockade when applied before exposure, but not after, suggesting timing is crucial for effectiveness.
  • * While quinine was not found in the extract, the presence of coumarin derivatives and other unknown alkaloids may contribute to the extract's ability to mitigate the effects of the venom.

Lippia origanoides Kunth (LO, Verbenaceae), commonly known in Brazil as salva-de-marajó, is an aromatic plant native to the Americas. Quilombola women from Oriximiná (Pará State, Brazil) use decoctions and decoction vapors of LO aerial parts orally or in sitz baths to alleviate symptoms of dysmenorrhea. This study aimed to evaluate LO decoctions and essential oils through a chemo-qualitative approach.

We have synthesized and characterized a novel series of ruthenium complexes with formulas [RuCl(N-S)(dppm)]PF (Ru1), [Ru(N-S)(dppm)]PF (Ru2), [Ru(N-S)(dppe)]PF (Ru3), [Ru(N-S)(dppen)]PF (Ru4), [Ru(N-S)(bpy)]PF (Ru5). In these formulas, N-S or S represents H2mq (2-mercapto-4(3)-quinazoline); dppe (1,2'-bis(diphenylphosphine)ethane), dppm (1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphine)methane), or dppen (1,2'-bis(diphenylphosphine)ethene); and bpy refers to 2,2'-bipyridine. We have also compared the cytotoxicity of cisplatin with these ruthenium complexes to murine melanoma cells (B16-F10), human melanoma cells (A-375), and the non-tumoral human keratinocyte cell line (HaCat).

Objective: To evaluate the ability of resveratrol to reduce dental caries in vitro and in vivo.

Methods: In part 1, a microcosm biofilm protocol was employed. One hundred twenty-six bovine enamel specimens were treated with: Resveratrol (50, 100, 200, 400 µg/mL), Phosphate buffered saline (negative control), Dimethyl sulfoxide (negative control) and 0.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on women of childbearing age (WoCBA) with moderate-to-severe psoriasis, examining their treatment options based on their pregnancy plans.
  • It compares two groups: those wishing to conceive (CB+) and those not planning to have more children (CB-), noting that there were no major differences in health-related quality of life but a higher use of certain treatments in the CB+ group.
  • Results indicate that discussions about family planning were more frequent among the CB+ group, but overall patient-doctor agreement on treatment decisions was only fair-to-moderate, highlighting areas for improvement in shared decision-making.

Objective: To examine the predictors of the occurrence of severe thrombocytopenia and its impact on damage accrual and mortality in SLE patients.

Methods: Factors associated with time to severe thrombocytopenia (platelet count ≤20,000/mm) occurring from the onset of SLE symptoms were assessed by Cox proportional hazards regressions. The association of severe thrombocytopenia with mortality was evaluated by logistic regression analyses while its impact on damage was by negative binomial regression.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how various postpolymerization methods, aging, and 3D printing technologies affect the properties of dental resins used for occlusal splints, models, and temporary restorations.
  • A total of 180 resin bars were printed and evaluated based on different postpolymerization treatments (control, UV oven, microwave), printers (SLA, LCD), and aging conditions (thermocycling or not).
  • Results indicated that LCD printing with UV postpolymerization yielded the highest flexural strength, while SLA printing with microwave postpolymerization resulted in significant dimensional shrinkage, particularly in occlusal splint resins.

Adipose tissue dysfunction influences the development of dyslipidemias associated with obesity, however, the mechanisms are still unclear. In this sense, the literature highlights the role of copper in cholesterol synthesis, contributing to the increase in concentrations of this lipid fraction and consequently to the manifestation of dyslipidemia. The objective of the study was to investigate the relationship between copper parameters and lipid profile markers in women with obesity.

Objective: To analyze cognitive performance and brain activation during a working memory task in patients with migraine during various phases of the migraine cycle and compare to healthy participants.

Background: Cognitive difficulties reported during migraine attacks remain poorly understood, despite evidence that the lateral frontoparietal network undergoes reversible disturbances and decreased activation during attacks. Recent findings in resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging suggest that brain areas involved in this network interact with subcortical regions during spontaneous migraine attacks.

Aublet is a floating aquatic plant, capable of absorbing the excess of nutrients and water contaminants and can be used in effluent treatment plants. The ability to survive in degraded areas may be related to the association with beneficial bacteria capable of promoting plant growth. However, little is known about the microbiota associated with this aquatic plant and its potential application to the aquatic environment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how changing Tifton 85 hay (TH) to Moringa hay (MH) affects sheep's eating and digestion.
  • They used 5 young rams and tested their diets with different amounts of TH and MH over 85 days.
  • The results showed that using MH reduced how much sheep ate and how well they digested their food, but their overall health seemed fine, and the study suggested using a bit of MH is okay for lambs.
