To address this gap, we studied behavioral characteristics and cerebral morpho-chemical changes of adult male heterozygous C57BL/6-PDE2A+/- (HET), and wild type C57BL/6-PDE2A+/+ (WT) mice.

Chemical Profile and Health-Promoting Activities of (Rosaceae) Flowers.

In the present study, we focused our attention on Ucria (Rosaceae), which is wild growing in western Sicily (Italy). The chemical profile of the flower's (CLF) ethanolic (70%) extract showed the presence of both C-flavonoid and O-flavonoid derivatives. Beyond the main metabolites, like hyperoside and vitexin, there are several luteolin derivates, in addition to catechin and epicatechin dimers or trimers.

Characterization and In Vivo Antiangiogenic Activity Evaluation of Morin-Based Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complexes.

Morin (MRN) is a natural compound with antiangiogenic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activity. However, it shows a very low water solubility (28 μg/mL) that reduces its oral absorption, making bioavailability low and unpredictable. To improve MRN solubility and positively affect its biological activity, particularly its antiangiogenic activity, in this work, we prepared the inclusion complexes of MNR with sulfobutylether--cyclodextrin (SBE--CD) and hydroxypropyl--cyclodextrin (HP--CD).

The Role of Colonoscopy in the Management of Individuals with Lynch Syndrome: A Narrative Review.

The history of Lynch syndrome changed definitively in 2000, when a study published in Gastroenterology demonstrated a significant reduction in mortality among individuals with Lynch syndrome who undergo regular endoscopic surveillance. As a consequence of this clinical evidence, all scientific societies developed guidelines, which highlighted the role of colonoscopy in the management of Lynch syndrome, especially for individuals at high risk of colorectal cancer. Over the years, these guidelines were modified and updated.

Impact of endobiliary radiofrequency ablation on survival of patients with unresectable cholangiocarcinoma: a narrative review.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a rare cancer originating from the biliary epithelium and accounts for about 3% of all gastrointestinal malignancies. Unfortunately, the majority of patients are not eligible for surgical resection at the time of diagnosis, because of the locally advanced stage or metastatic disease. The overall survival time of unresectable CCA is generally less than 1 year, despite current chemotherapy regimens.

Immune-related thyroid dysfunctions during anti PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors: new evidence from a single centre experience.

The role of anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (anti-TPO Abs) in the development of abnormal thyroid function tests (DYSTHYR) during treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) is not fully understood; moreover, controversial data exist about the relationship between ICI-related thyroid dysfunction (TD) and survival. We retrospectively analyzed the onset or the worsening of DYSTHYR in patients treated with programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) or its ligand (PD-L1) inhibitors between 2017 and 2020. In patients without previous TD, we focused on the association between baseline anti-TPO Abs level and DYSTHYR.

Lynch syndrome (LS) is an autosomal dominant inherited disorder that primarily predisposes individuals to colorectal and endometrial cancer. It is associated with pathogenic variants in DNA mismatch repair (MMR) genes. In this study, we report the case of a 16-year-old boy who developed a precancerous colonic lesion and had a clinical suspicion of LS.

Crack Surface Analysis of Elastomers Using Transfer Learning.

Cracks that form during fatigue offer critical information regarding the fracture process of the associated material, such as the crack speed, energy dissipation, and material stiffness. Characterization of the surfaces formed after these cracks have propagated through the material can provide important information complementary to other in-depth analyses. However, because of the complex nature of these cracks, their characterization is difficult, and most of the established characterization techniques are inadequate.

Hemangioblastomas are rare lesions accounting for 1-5% of all spinal cord tumors and are mostly associated with von Hippel-Lindau syndrome. Localization in the cauda equina is uncommon. In this manuscript we aim to describe a rare case of sporadic intradural extramedullary hemangioblastoma of the cauda equina and present a literature review.

Thyroid hormone disorder and the heart: The role of cardiolipin in calcium handling.

Do alterations in thyroid status affect haemodynamic parameters and echocardiographic measurements in the rat postnatal heart, and calcium handling, contractility, relaxation and cardiolipin content in isolated rat cardiomyocytes? What is the main finding and its importance? An imbalance in phospholipids of the mitochondrial membrane such as cardiolipin is related to defects in mitochondrial function. T -dependent cardiolipin signals contribute to the maintenance of mitochondrial homeostasis and involve Ca handling, this pathway being more important in hypothyroidism.

Morpho-Functional Changes of Nigral Dopamine Neurons in an α-Synuclein Model of Parkinson's Disease.

Background: The accumulation of α-synuclein (α-syn) fibrils in intraneuronal inclusions called Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites is a pathological signature of Parkinson's disease (PD). Although several aspects linked to α-syn-dependent pathology (concerning its spreading, aggregation, and activation of inflammatory and neurodegenerative processes) have been under intense investigation, less attention has been devoted to the real impact of α-syn overexpression on structural and functional properties of substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc) dopamine (DA) neurons, particularly at tardive stages of α-syn buildup, despite this has obvious relevance to comprehending mechanisms beyond PD progression.

Objectives: We aimed to determine the consequences of a prolonged α-syn overexpression on somatodendritic morphology and functions of SNpc DA neurons.

New Insights on Phytochemical Features and Biological Properties of Stem Bark.

(namely black alder or European alder) is a tree of the Betulaceae family widely spread through Europe, Southeastern Asia, the Caucasus mountains, and Western Siberia. Its bark is traditionally used for medicinal purposes as an astringent, cathartic, febrifuge, emetic, hemostatic, and tonic, suggesting that it may contain bioactive compounds useful to counteract inflammation. The aim of this study was to investigate the phytochemical profile of stem bark extract (AGE) by LC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS analysis and to validate some biological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic properties by in vitro and in vivo models (chick chorioallantoic membranes and zebrafish embryos), that can justify its use against inflammatory-based diseases.

Introduction: Bullying in health care setting has a globally prevalence between 1% and 87% and it's in constant increase described by "WHO" as: "Bullying is a major public health problem". It is defined as a repeated ill-treatment, harmful for the health of one or more individuals by one or more people. There are different types of behaviours and they vary from verbal abuse, offensive conduct, humiliating and intimidating attitudes.

A New Clinical Model to Estimate the Pre-Test Probability of Cushing's Syndrome: The Cushing Score.

Background: Hypercortisolism accounts for relevant morbidity and mortality and is often a diagnostic challenge for clinicians. A prompt diagnosis is necessary to treat Cushing's syndrome as early as possible.
