Transoral robotic surgery (TORS) is nowadays considered a valuable minimally invasive approach to treat oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). The aim of this technique is to improve functional preservation and reduce morbidity with excellent oncologic outcomes compared to the traditional transoral approach and chemoradiotherapy (CRT). The purpose of this systematic review is to assess an exhaustive overview of functional outcomes of TORS for OPSCC by evaluating several parameters reported in the available literature, such as the prevalence and dependence of tracheotomy, feeding tubes (FTs) and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), the length of hospitalization, swallowing scores, speech tests and quality of life (QoL) questionnaires.

The Diagnostic Value of Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound for Localization of Parathyroid Lesions in Primary Hyperparathyroidism: Comparison With Color Doppler Ultrasound: Comparison With Color Doppler Ultrasound.

Objectives: Preoperative localization of pathological parathyroid glands with imaging is essential for focused unilateral neck exploration and minimally invasive techniques. Recently published studies suggested that contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) had high accuracy in the localization of hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands, with a general increase in the sensitivity as compared to conventional sonography. The purpose of this study was to determine the usefulness of CEUS in the localization of parathyroid lesions relating to surgical and histopathological data, in comparison to color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS), in the same series of patients.

The aim of this study was to compare the AKI incidence associated with concomitant vancomycin and piperacillin/tazobactam compared to either cefepime or meropenem with vancomycin in the ICU.

Materials And Methods: A multicenter, retrospective, propensity score-matched cohort study was conducted in adult ICU patients administered vancomycin in combination with either piperacillin/tazobactam, cefepime, or meropenem were included.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia and immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy-related pneumonitis share common features. The aim of this study was to determine on chest computed tomography (CT) images whether a deep convolutional neural network algorithm is able to solve the challenge of differential diagnosis between COVID-19 pneumonia and ICI therapy-related pneumonitis.

Methods: We enrolled three groups: a pneumonia-free group ( = 30), a COVID-19 group ( = 34), and a group of patients with ICI therapy-related pneumonitis ( = 21).

Pre-operative imaging workup for surgical intervention in primary hyperparathyroidism: A tertiary referral center experience.

Purpose: Preoperative imaging in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism provides important localization information, allowing the surgeon to perform a focused surgery. However there are no evidence-based guidelines suggesting which preoperative imaging should be used, resulting in a risk of excessive prescription of exams and waste of economic resources. The main purpose of this study was to describe our experience on the performance of various imaging techniques for the preoperative localization of abnormal parathyroid gland/s, with a focus on the sensitivity and specificity of each technique.

A predator-based psychosocial stress animal model of PTSD in females: Influence of estrous phase and ovarian hormones.

Traumatized women are more likely than traumatized men to develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Still, the inclusion of females in animal models of PTSD has largely been avoided, likely due to the variable hormone profile of female rodents. Because a valid animal model of PTSD that incorporates females is still needed, we examined the influence of estrous stage and ovarian hormones on the female rat response to a predator-based psychosocial stress model of PTSD.

Platelet rich plasma in androgenetic alopecia: A systematic review.

In recent years, dozens of manufacturers and clinics have been promoting the use of platelet rich plasma (PRP) procedures for skin and hair regeneration. Well-designed randomized controlled studies for these procedures are lacking. In this communication, we review the efficacy and safety of PRP procedures for androgenetic alopecia from multiple published peer-reviewed studies.

First, a definition of salutogenesis will be given, providing the origin of this notion of health preservation and disease prevention. Impact of diet and nutraceutical supplementation on inflammation in elderly people. Results from the RISTOMED study, an open-label randomized control trial.

Background & Aims: Eating habits may influence the life span and the quality of ageing process by modulating inflammation. The RISTOMED project was developed to provide a personalized and balanced diet, enriched with or without nutraceutical compounds, to decrease and prevent inflammageing, oxidative stress and gut microbiota alteration in healthy elderly people. This paper focused on the effect on inflammation and metabolism markers after 56 days of RISTOMED diet alone or supplementation with three nutraceutical compounds.

Skin repair properties of d-Limonene and perillyl alcohol in murine models.

The orange-peel derived terpene d-Limonene, probably through its metabolite, perillyl alcohol (POH), has been reported to have tissue-repair properties. Two murine models of respectively 12-O-Tetradecanoylphorbol-13-Acetate (TPA)-induced dermatitis and mechanical skin lesion were used here to assess the efficacy of d-Limonene or POH applied topically. Macroscopic and microscopic evaluation of skin lesions was performed as well as that of P-selectin expression, together with measurements of serum concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α in the first model.

Anti-stress effects of d-limonene and its metabolite perillyl alcohol.

Stress is closely linked by its biological mechanisms to inflammation and by its consequences to accelerated aging. Stress triggers a hormonal response along the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which can disrupt the ortho/parasympathetic balance essential for a harmonious life. Proper nutrition, adequate physical activity, and limiting the harmful influence of stress play important roles in avoiding the development of disease and promoting healthy aging.

Imaging of the CO snow line in a solar nebula analog.

Planets form in the disks around young stars. Their formation efficiency and composition are intimately linked to the protoplanetary disk locations of "snow lines" of abundant volatiles. We present chemical imaging of the carbon monoxide (CO) snow line in the disk around TW Hya, an analog of the solar nebula, using high spatial and spectral resolution Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array observations of diazenylium (N2H(+)), a reactive ion present in large abundance only where CO is frozen out.

Virtual autopsy in hanging.

The aim of the study was to compare postmortem computed tomographic (CT) imaging findings from a case of hanging with the autopsy findings. The CT showed a good match with autopsy findings especially for bone, soft tissue, and spinal injuries. The CT images of the injuries of the neck obtained by CT scan clearly showed the ligature mark, the hemorrhagic suffusion in the soft tissue (thickening of derma) and in the muscles (sternocleidomastoid) of the neck.
