Aim: To determine the prevalence of joint hypermobility (JH) among young Kuwaiti adults.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 390 randomly selected healthy undergraduate university students, aged 18-29 years from the Health Sciences Centre, Kuwait University, Safat, Kuwait. Beighton score at four peripheral sites bilaterally (knees, elbows, thumbs and fifth fingers) and forward flexion of the trunk were used to evaluate joint hypermobility.
Background: Saudi population is unique in that there is a strong preference for cousin marriages in the general population. We studied the prevalence of consanguinity in educated Saudi females and compared the results with the results obtained in their parents, to access if a generation difference in which extensive educational activities have prevailed to inform the people of the influence of cousin marriages on health, has made any difference in prevalence of consanguineous marriages.
Method: A total of 600 Saudi women (421 university students and 179 women attending outpatients' clinics) were interviewed about their own and their parents' consanguinity.
Background: Currently, the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI) is the body responsible for regulating health insurance in the KSA. While the cooperative health insurance schedule (i.e.

Patients' cure rate was evaluated up to 6 weeks after treatment. Blood samples were collected at different time periods on the first and last days of a 3-week treatment.

The present work is a preliminary investigation of the effect of CPF on healing of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) lesions, caused by Leishmania major in farmers exposed to this insecticide, after treatment with Pentostam(®). Lesion diameters were measured and CPF concentrations in the blood plasma of farmer and non-farmer CL patients in Al-Ahsa were detected by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry before and 6 weeks after treatment with Pentostam(®).

For 20 years there has been an interest in antifungal azoles for treating leishmaniasis, with variable success. In the current study, we examined the effects of co-administration of fluconazole (FLZ) on the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of Sb(V) in cutaneous leishmaniasis-infected hamsters.

The effects of streptozotocin-induced diabetes and/or cutaneous Leishmania major infection on the pharmacokinetics of antimony (SbV) have now been investigated, in hamsters treated with sodium stibogluconate (Pentostam). The animals were randomly divided into five groups, each of 20 hamsters, known as D (for diabetes without leishmaniasis), DL (diabetes induced prior to the leishmaniasis), L (leishmaniasis without diabetes), LD (diabetes induced after leishmanial infection) and C (the control group, of animals with neither diabetes nor leishmaniasis).

Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to dermatologists and general practitioners working at health care centers in different parts of KSA through the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health. This questionnaire consisted of 4 categories divided into 10 points covering the patients; demographics, severity of the disease, treatment types and regimen.
The historical phylogeography of the two most important intermediate host species of the human blood fluke Schistosoma mansoni, B. glabrata in the New World, and B. pfeifferi in the Old World, was investigated using partial 16S and ND1 sequences from the mitochondrial genome.

Objective: Overweight and obesity are among the most frequently encountered multifactorial disorders in most populations of the world. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in Saudi females of childbearing age.
Materials And Methods: The study was approved by the University Scientific Committee.
We examined in this study the pharmacokinetics of Sb in the affected skin and normal skin of patients treated with sodium stibogluconate for cutaneous leishmaniasis and compared the results with those for the blood. The procedure was fully explained, and a written consent was obtained from each of nine patients. After a dose of sodium stibogluconate equivalent to 600 mg of Sb was administered intramuscularly, small skin biopsies were collected under local anesthesia at different time intervals from the circumferences of the lesions and simultaneously from normal skin.

Strain S1, growing in fully defined medium, and strain S2 (MHOM/ET/67/HA3) both transported adenosine and inosine, but only strain S1 transported uridine and thymidine. Competition studies in the presence of 100 microM of unlabeled adenosine, inosine, guanosine, 2'-deoxyadenosine, tubercidin, formycin B, 3'-deoxyinosine as well as uridine, thymidine and cytidine, with either 1 microM [3H]adenosine or [3H]inosine as permeant, were carried out.
