Article Synopsis
  • * In a presented case, a 59-year-old woman on FOLFOX therapy experienced severe thrombocytopenia and rectal bleeding, leading to treatment adjustments and eventually identifying oxaliplatin antibodies as the cause.
  • * Following the discovery of these antibodies through flow cytometry, oxaliplatin was permanently discontinued to prevent further thrombocytopenic events.

The incidence and mortality data for patients with breast cancer in the United States are important to healthcare administrators for planning healthcare measures such as screening mammograms. In this study, we examined breast cancer incidence and incidence-based mortality in the United States from 2004-2018 using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. We reviewed 915,417 cases of breast cancer diagnosed between 2004 and 2018.

Background: CD10, BCL6, and MUM1 are commonly used immunohistochemical stains for classifying diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), which is useful in predicting outcome. Conflicting reports of the prognostic value of other markers such as BCL2, CD23, and Ki67 proliferation index have been reported. Our objective was to correlate these immunostains and Hans classification with response to therapy and overall survival.

COVID-19 has become a pandemic in the United States and worldwide. COVID-19-induced coagulopathy (CIC) is commonly encountered at presentation manifested by considerable elevation of D-dimer and fibrin split products but with modest or no change in activated partial thromboplastin time and prothrombin time. CIC is a complex process that is distinctly different from conventional sepsis-induced coagulopathy.

Ibrutinib is approved for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). However, its role in the treatment of multiple myeloma (MM) is not clear and is under investigation. We report a case of CLL that developed MM while on therapy with ibrutinib indicating that this drug may not be active against MM.

Cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) is associated with high VTE recurrence and bleeding. We included all randomized clinical trials that evaluated the efficacy and safety of various anticoagulants in cancer-associated VTE. Trial-level data were extracted from 13 trials.

Intussusception is a rare phenomenon in adults and usually presents with bowel obstruction. Unlike child intussusception, adult intussusception is seldom idiopathic and frequently associated with secondary causes such as benign and malignant tumors. While most cases are treated surgically, emerging data suggest a more conservative management approach for patients with short-segment adult intussusception and without high-risk features such as bowel obstruction, mass seen on imaging, colon involvement, or constitutional symptoms of malignancy.

Background: Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and mismatch repair gene mutation (MMR) status are emerging biomarkers in immunotherapy. MMR status and TILs have significant clinical implications with regard to treatment with checkpoint inhibitors. We designed a study to determine the frequency and prognostic utility of TILs and MMR in advanced unresectable noncolorectal gastrointestinal (NCGI) malignancies.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a very aggressive and lethal tumor, which arises from the epithelial cells of bile ducts. CCA comprises about 3% of all gastrointestinal malignancies and its incidence is on the rise in the recent years. Anatomically, it is classified into intrahepatic, perihilar, or extrahepatic (distal) CCA.

Primary cardiac lymphoma (PCL) is a rare neoplasm that involves the heart, pericardium, or both. Patients with PCL have median survival of approximately 7 months. We report a 63-year-old woman with PCL treated with chemoimmunotherapy but relapsed 7 years later.

In patients presenting with thrombotic thrombocytopenia purpura and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, prompt initiation of plasma exchange takes precedence over other invasive diagnostic procedures for coronary artery disease. Such procedures should be delayed until clinical condition and laboratory parameters have been stabilized.

Introduction: Radioimmunotherapy (RIT) is a unique therapeutic modality that combines biologic and radiolytic mechanisms to induce tumor kill. RIT is underutilized in the community outpatient setting.

Methods: This is an institutional review of patients treated with RIT at St.

Article Synopsis
  • The combination of rituximab and 2-CdA shows promise as an effective therapy for B-cell tumors, with 75% of evaluated patients responding positively.
  • Research conducted on patient samples and animal models reveals enhanced tumor response, particularly in follicular lymphoma, with significant survival benefits noted post-treatment.
  • Molecular analysis indicates that the combination triggers important cellular pathways, including the activation of specific kinases, contributing to the therapeutic efficacy.
