Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the energy parameters and traumatic potential of different weighted projectiles shot from a sling by police officers.
  • The trials involved various projectile types, including round steel balls and asymmetrically shaped stones, revealing that heavier projectiles (over 100g) can cause significant injuries like fractures and serious head trauma.
  • Based on the findings, it is recommended that police officers wear full riot gear and maintain a minimum safe distance of 60m from potential threats, with helmets required at up to 200m to prevent severe injuries.
