Dichloroacetate (DCA) is a compound which activity is observed by experimental and clinical toxicologists. DCA is a by-product of chlorination of water, it is toxic to many organs, such as liver, kidneys or nervous system. In a view of its metabolism it is also demonstrated that this substance may be treated as a drug in various medical conditions, such as different types of tumors for example.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLipoprotein lipase (LPL)-mediated triacylglycerol (TAG) hydrolysis in very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) is accompanied by the release of surface material containing phospholipids (PL), free cholesterol (FC) and apolipoproteins, E (apoE) and Cs (apoCII, apoCIII). The released molecules are accepted by high density lipoprotein (HDL), and new HDL-sized apoE-containing particles are also generated. A decrease in the number of HDL particles or abnormalities in their structure is associated with unfavourable changes in the features of VLDL remnants.
