Background: Children and adolescents are increasingly exposed to processed food in China, however, its association with obesity has not been investigated.
Objectives: To assess the consumption of ultra-processed food (UPF) and its association with overweight/obesity among children and adolescents in China.
Methods: A total of 3437 children and adolescents aged 6-18 years, participating at least twice in the China Nutrition and Health Survey, were included.
: Adolescence is a crucial stage when young people adopt various lifestyle behaviours that can impact their health. However, the broader determinants of these behaviours remain underexplored. This study aimed to investigate clustering patterns of lifestyle behaviours, including physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and dietary habits, among adolescents and examine their determinants across individual, community, and societal levels.

Although Magnesium (Mg) and Calcium (Ca) have been individually linked to MetS, the impact of the calcium-to-magnesium ratio (Ca: Mg) on MetS remains unclear, especially in the adult population of Qatar. In this study, we aim to investigate the association between the total serum concentrations of Ca, Mg and Ca: Mg ratio with the outcome of MetS.

Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search for cross-sectional studies, longitudinal studies, case-control studies and clinical trials on the interaction between nutrient and heavy metal, as well as mixed heavy metal exposure, in relation to cognition across the lifespan.
Background: Inadequate maternal dietary intakes remain a public health challenge in low-income countries like Malawi and can cause adverse birth outcomes.
Objectives: To improve maternal dietary intakes and thus reduce the prevalence of adverse birth outcomes in rural Malawi.
Methods: We performed a 2-armed (1:1) cluster-randomized controlled trial in Southern Malawi, enrolling pregnant women at gestational age 12-18 wk.
Background: There is increasing evidence suggesting that daily oral hygiene self-care measures may alleviate cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The authors aimed to determine the influence of self-reported dental flossing behavior on the prevalence of CVD events, CVD-linked mortality, and a CVD risk marker of inflammation (ie, C-reactive protein [CRP]).
Methods: Data from 18,801 adult participants of the 2009-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys were analyzed with regard to flossing behavior, prevalence of CVD events, mortality cause data, and CRP levels.
Obesity (Silver Spring)
November 2024
Objective: Obesity has become a major public health problem worldwide and particularly in China. This study examined the secular trend of overweight and obesity in China over the past 100 years.
Methods: Nationwide data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey and the Chinese General Social Survey were used.
: Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) is associated with inflammation and complications, potentially leading to prolonged ICU and hospital stays. Omega-3 PUFA has anti-inflammatory properties, thought to potentially reduce complications in CABG patients. This study aims to systematically review and meta-analyze the impact of perioperative omega-3 PUFA supplementation on total ICU and total hospital stays in CABG patients; : Randomized controlled trials examining the effects of omega-3 PUFA supplementation (IV/oral) on ICU and hospital stays in CABG patients were included.

Currently, there is a gap in research utilizing machine learning (ML) algorithms to predict hypertension risk in Chinese middle-aged and elderly diabetic patients, and gender differences in DCH comorbidity patterns remain unclear. We aimed to use ML algorithms to predict DCH and identify its determinants among middle-aged and elderly diabetic patients in China.

Objective: To explore the correlation between different types of vegetable and fruit intake and cognitive function among the older adults in Chongqing, China, and to provide a scientific basis for developing efficient lifestyle interventions for the prevention of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).
Method: Approximately 728 older adults in urban and rural areas of Chongqing were surveyed using face-to-face questionnaires. Cognitive function was assessed with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Basic (MoCA-B) scale, and the vegetable and fruit intake groups were investigated with the Simple Food Frequency Counting Survey Scale.
Background: Influenza vaccination is essential for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients due to their higher risks of severe complications and mortality from influenza. This study investigated the willingness of T2DM patients in Chongqing, China, to receive the influenza vaccination during the 2023/2024 season, using behavioral and social drivers (BeSD) tools to improve vaccination uptake in this high-risk group.
Methods: A multi-stage sampling method was used to select participants, and face-to-face surveys were conducted in community health centers between March 1 and May 1, 2023.
Clinical nutritionists are responsible for nutritional therapy in clinical practice, which significantly enhances patients' nutritional status. This study aims to develop and validate a competency evaluation scale to effectively assess the abilities of clinical nutritionists. The competency evaluation scale for clinical nutritionists was developed based on the iceberg model, utilizing literature review, semi-structured interviews, and the Delphi method.
