Article Synopsis
  • Formation of the organizer is crucial for vertebrate development, helping to establish the central nervous system (CNS) and dorsal-ventral axis through signals from Nodal and Wnt pathways.
  • Sox3, a transcription factor, plays a key role by repressing processes that lead to organizer formation, particularly in regions where it is strongly expressed in zebrafish.
  • The study demonstrates that Sox3's inhibition can lead to ectopic expression of organizer genes, resulting in duplicated body axes, suggesting that SoxB1 genes like Sox3 and Sox19b regulate the timing and location of organizer formation.
