Spirometric obstruction and tobacco exposure among male Turkish nursing home residents.

Spirometric obstruction is a prevalent problem in older adults and related to life-style risk factors. Symptoms related to chronic-obstructive-pulmonary-disease (COPD) are also prevalent symptoms with diverse etiologies - not limited to pulmonary obstruction. Older adults may have unrecognized airway obstruction due to functional limitations or symptoms mis-attributed to age/other co-morbidities.

Multifocal endobronchial carcinoid tumors: a rare case.

We present a case of multifocal endobronchial carcinoid tumor and review the literature on multifocal endobronchial carcinoid tumors. Our patient was admitted with complaints of paroxysmal cough and recurrent lower respiratory tract infections. Computed tomography of the chest showed tubular densities in the bilateral lower lobes and a 15-mm soft-tissue mass in the right lower lobe without any enlargement in the mediastinal lymph nodes.

Self-management plans for asthma control and predictors of patient compliance.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of peak flow or symptom-based self-management plans on asthma control and patients' quality of life and to determine the main psychosocial factors that affect compliance with these plans.

Methods: The study sample consisted of 63 patients with persistent asthma outpatients. Data collection included demographics, pulmonary functions, symptom scores, and asthma control parameters recorded over the previous 2 consecutive years.
