Genome-wide association study reveals a genomic region on SSC7 simultaneously associated with backfat thickness, skin thickness and carcass length in a Large White × Tongcheng advanced generation intercross resource population.

In order to identify important genetic markers associated with backfat thickness, skin thickness and carcass length, we first constructed Large White × Tongcheng (Chinese local breed), an advanced generation intercross population, then performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to reveal the key genomic region associated with these traits through whole genome sequencing. The GWAS results of backfat thickness, skin thickness and carcass length showed that all the most significant SNPs associated with these three traits were located on SSC7, and that 14.9, 27.

The Influences of Tai Chi on Balance Function and Exercise Capacity among Stroke Patients: A Meta-Analysis.

Objective: This study aims to explore the influences of Tai Chi on the balance function and exercise capacity among stroke patients.

Methods: Databases including PubMed, Embase, WOS (Web of Science), the Cochrane Library, CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), Wanfang Data, VIP (VIP database), and CBM (China Biology Medicine disc) were retrieved to gather the figures of randomized controlled trials on the balance function and exercise capacity among stroke patients. Then relevant data were input and analyzed in Review Manager 5.

Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by high incidence, high disability, and high fatality, causing great burden to the society, families, and individuals. The changes in brain plasticity may be a main reason for depression. The supplementation of feed with antioxidants decreases degradation of lipids in muscles thereby enhances nutritional and sensory properties of meat. Two experiments were conducted to determine the effects of adding oregano essential oil (OEO) and benzoic acid (BA) to low-protein, amino acid-supplemented diets on meat quality, sensory profile, fatty acid composition, and lipid oxidation of longissimus thoracis (LT) muscle in pigs.

Effect of oregano essential oil supplementation to a reduced-protein, amino acid-supplemented diet on meat quality, fatty acid composition, and oxidative stability of Longissimus thoracis muscle in growing-finishing pigs.

This study investigated the effects of reduced-protein, amino acid-supplemented diet supplementation with oregano essential oil (OEO) in pigs, from growing period to slaughter, on the meat quality, fatty acid composition, and oxidative stability of Longissimus thoracis (LT) muscle. Thirty-six barrows were randomly divided into three experimental treatments, namely, normal protein diet (NPD), reduced-protein, amino acid-supplemented diet (RPD), and identical RPD supplemented (250mg/kg feed) with OEO (OEO) treatments. Dietary RPD and OEO increased the b*, tenderness, overall acceptance, and intramuscular fat (IMF) content of pork compared with dietary NPD.
