Sepsis predictors in earthquake survivors: A comparative analysis of amputation and fasciotomy patients.

Objectives: This study aimed to identify predictors of sepsis in earthquake survivors who underwent either amputation or fasciotomy and to compare these two patient groups across many clinical outcomes, including sepsis.

Patients And Methods: In this retrospective study, a total of 1,608 patients who presented to our hospital following the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş earthquakes were evaluated between February 2023 and March 2023. Of these, 138 patients (65 males, 73 females; median age: 35 years; range, 18 to 74 years) who underwent either fasciotomy or amputation were included in the study.

The milk ladder (ML) approach, which is the gradual reintroduction of the milk allergen from the least allergenic forms to the most allergenic forms into the diet of the patients, has been utilized mostly in non-IgE-mediated but in some countries also in IgE-mediated-CMPA due to its possible benefits which include nutrition, quality of life and tolerance induction. Despite increasing interest, so far, there is no guideline on ML; thus, the use of this approach shows discrepancies among healthcare professionals as many factors such as dietary habits, patient history, test results, workload, and facilities of the hospitals, the anxiety of the parents/patients may affect the decision on how, when, where and whom to use ML. Here, we reviewed current data on implementing the ML, suggested a 4-step ML including receipts and amounts, and shared our experience on optimal patient selection, appropriate time and steps for initiating ML, and time intervals between the steps targeting the lowest risk of reaction.

This makes them attractive for a broad range of applications including flexible and lightweight wearable consumer electronics. In this work, we fabricate flexible solid-state supercapacitors with improved capacitance and cycle life.

Determination of 16 European Priority Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Doner Kebab Varieties Cooked Under Different Heating Sources.

Doner kebab is a traditional Turkish meat product produced from lamb, beef or poultry meat seasoned with a blend of spices such as salt, black pepper, cumin, thyme and/or sauces. The aim of this study was to determine 16 EU priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in doner kebabs cooked under four different heating sources (electricity, open gas, wood and charcoal grilling). For this purpose, 200 meat doner and 200 chicken doner kebab samples were obtained randomly from various buffets and restaurants located in Istanbul and analyzed by means of GC-MS.

Prognostic accuracy of blood cell count ratios in predicting adverse outcomes in crush syndrome patients.

The rationale behind this study was the lack of an accurate predictor to facilitate treatment management and anticipate prognosis in crush syndrome. Our research aimed to investigate the following: (1) Is there a correlation between the ratios of blood cell counts upon admission and the adverse outcomes of crush syndrome? and (2) if such a correlation exists, what are the precise thresholds of blood cell count ratios for predicting these adverse outcomes? In this single-centered and retrospective design study, we analyzed all patients admitted to our hospital after Kahramanmaras Earthquake. The data on length of stay in the ICU and mortality status were obtained using our hospital system.

Exploring the impact of developmental dysplasia of the hip on refugees with temporary protected status in Türkiye.

Objective: In this study, we examined whether there was a change in the number of children who had been screened by hip ultrasound, the age of first diagnosis, and the number of invasive and conservative treatments applied due to developmental dysplasia of the hip between 2016 and 2022 among refugees who were in "Temporary Protection Status" in Türkiye?

Methods: The records were collected via the e-health database of the Turkish Ministry of Health. Over 1 month old were included in the study.

Thiourea structures, known for their wide-ranging bioactivity, have significant potential in diabetes management. In this study, it was aimed to examine the antioxidant capacities of fluorophenyl thiourea derivative compounds and their inhibition studies on α-amylase and α-glycosidase enzyme activity. Antioxidant capacity was determined using Fe-Fe, FRAP, and Cu-Cu reducing analyses, DPPH· and ABTS· scavenging experiments.

While reactive oxygen species (ROS) have long been known to drive aging and neurodegeneration, their persistent depletion below basal levels also disrupts organismal function. Cells counteract loss of basal ROS via the reductive stress response, but the identity and biochemical activity of ROS sensed by this pathway remain unknown. Here, we show that the central enzyme of the reductive stress response, the E3 ligase Cullin 2-FEM1 homolog B (CUL2), specifically acts at mitochondrial TOM complexes, where it senses ROS produced by complex III of the electron transport chain (ETC).

Relationship between ECG-derived T-wave amplitude and T/R ratio and Syntax score in patients with acute non-st segment elevation myocardial infarction.

Objectives And Background: Our objective was to determine the diagnostic significance of a low T-wave amplitude (TWA) and T/R ratio, defined as the amplitude ratio between the T waves and the R waves, in patients with acute non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (ANSTEMI). Syntax score (SS) shows the extension of coronary artery disease. Previously, low TWA and T/R ratios were demonstrated to be inversely proportional to the risk of sudden cardiac arrest in different cardiac disease conditions.

Successful Desensitization With ELX/TEZ/IVA.

Elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ELX/TEZ/IVA) was given US Food and Drug Administration approval based on its therapeutic benefits to treat patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) who had at least 1 allele of the CF transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) with phenylalanine deleted at position 508 (F508del). The increase in genotyping studies has increased the frequency of use of CFTR modulators; however, severe allergic reactions to CFTR modulators have also been described. It is critical to avoid the offending medication and select alternative treatments while dealing with drug allergies.

Hypersensitivity myocarditis induced by isoniazid overdose in a 15-year-old girl: a case report.

Introduction: Myocarditis represents a diverse group of inflammatory diseases affecting the heart muscle, with both infectious and non-infectious etiologies. Among the non-infectious causes, drug-induced hypersensitivity reactions are rare but serious. Isoniazid, a cornerstone in tuberculosis treatment, is known for its hepatotoxicity but has rarely been documented to cause hypersensitivity myocarditis.

Efficient removal of congo red and cytotoxicity evaluation of biosorbents prepared from chitosan-added watermelon pulp.

The development of environmentally friendly adsorbents has become increasingly important for treating waste generated by the growing global industry. In this study, new biosorbents were synthesized from an all-natural chitosan and watermelon pulp for the treatment of congo red textile dye from water. Biosorbents were prepared by lyophilizing chitosan-added watermelon pulp (AC-WPC).
