Serum inhibin B (INHB) concentrations are associated with testicular volumes (TV) in all periods of childhood. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between TV measured by ultrasonography (US) and cord blood inhibin B and total testosterone (TT) concentrations, stratified by mode of delivery. In total 90 male infants were included.

Differences in Pain Characteristics and Functional Associations between Nursing Home Residents and Community-Dwelling Older Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Pain is one of the most critical issues in older adults, and the place of residence may play an important role in pain characteristics and related factors. However, it is an understudied subject. This study investigated differences in pain characteristics and functional associations between nursing home residents and community-dwelling older adults.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between advanced glycation end product (AGE) expression and accumulation in transurethral resection (TUR-B) material taken from type-2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and non-DM bladder cancer patients and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) with bladder cancer.

Method: The patients who had TUR-B between May 2016 and September 2018 were included in the study. After the tissue samples had been taken and frozen at -80°C, they were homogenised to be used in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) experiments.

The effect of risk factors on surgical and oncological results in high-risk prostate cancer: A multicentre study of the urooncology society, Turkey.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of risk factors and selected surgical methods on operative and oncological results of patients undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP) with high-risk prostate cancer (HRPC).

Methods: Retrospective analysis of patients who underwent RP for HRPC from 13 urology centres between 1990 and 2019 was performed. Groups were created according to the risk factors of D'Amico classification.

Use of the prostate health index in the detection of prostate cancer at all PSA levels (use of prostate health index in prostate cancer).

Objectives: To determine the efficiency of prostate health index (PHI) calculated simultaneously during an ultrasound-guided fine-needle prostate biopsy in prostate cancer diagnosis.

Methods: The present study included 258 subsequent patients who underwent a TRUS-guided biopsy in our clinic between August 2015 and March 2016 due to elevated blood levels of PSA and suspicion of prostate cancer. The total PSA, free PSA and pro-PSA were analysed in all patients before the procedure.

Factors Affecting Surgical Margin Positivity after Radical Prostatectomy in the Turkish Population: A Multicenter Study of the Urooncology Association.

Background: The prediction of positive surgical margins (SM) after radical prostatectomy (RP) is important for planning the surgical modality and adjuvant therapy in patients with prostate cancer (PCa).

Objectives: To investigate factors affecting SM positivity in patients diagnosed with PCa who underwent RP using the PCa database of the Urooncology Association (Turkey).

Methods: Patients who underwent RP due to clinically T1c-T3 PCa and who had detailed SM data for the RP specimen were included in the study.

Vena cava defect repair using a polytetrafluoroethylene graft after a radical nephrectomy and vena cava resection: A case report.

Introduction: The gold standard treatment for large renal masses is a radical nephrectomy and the removal of tumor thrombi from the large vessels. Here, we discussed the repair of a vena cava defect using a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) graft after a radical nephrectomy and vena cava resection.

Case: A 69-year-old male patient presented to our clinic with right-sided pain and 10 kg of weight loss over the previous 3 months.

Management of erosion of inflatable penile prosthesis reservoir into bladder. A different approach.

We report a rare case of erosion of an inflatable penile prosthesis reservoir into the bladder that was managed with a different approach from the literature by preserving the existing reservoir. Inflatable penile implant was applied to a 54-year-old male patient who had undergone with a robot-assisted radical prostatectomy operation due to localized prostate cancer 2 years before. Two months after the operation, the patient referred to our clinic with predominant symptoms of lower urinary tract system associated with scrotal pain and swelling.

Definitive external-beam radiotherapy versus radical prostatectomy in clinically localized high-risk prostate cancer: a retrospective study.

Background: Optimal treatment of high-risk prostate cancer remains controversial. We aimed to compare treatment outcomes of prostate cancer patients treated with definitive external-beam radiotherapy (ExRT) or radical prostatectomy (RP).

Methods: The records of 120 high-risk clinical stage T2b-T4 N0 M0 prostate cancer patients treated with definitive ExRT or RP were reviewed.

Adverse effects of single-component measles vaccine in school children.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection potentially with serious complications and the principal method of protection from the disease is vaccination. Measles vaccination resulted in a 79% drop in measles deaths between 2000 and 2015 worldwide. There has long been a debate about the necessity and benefit-loss ratio of routine MMR vaccination due to possible AE of MMR vaccine.

A Retrospective Study of 39 Patients Treated With Anterior Approach of Thoracic and Lumbar Spondylodiscitis: Clinical Manifestations, Anterior Surgical Treatment, and Outcome.

The aim of this study is to report our 39 patients treated with anterior debridement and autologous iliac bone grafting with or without anterior instrumentation, which is the presumed treatment of choice for thoracic or lumbar spondylodiscitis.Our patients underwent surgical treatment of spondylodiscitis using anterior debridement and autologous iliac bone grafting with or without anterior instrumentation and were analyzed with a mean follow-up of 8 years (range, 2-11 years). Kaneda 2-rod system instrumentation was used in 12 patients, in total.

Genetic alterations of chromosomes, p53 and p16 genes in low- and high-grade bladder cancer.

A majority of patients with bladder cancer present with superficial disease and subsequently, some patients show progression to muscle invasive or metastatic disease. Bladder cancer has a complex genetic process and identification of the genetic alterations which occur during progression may lead to the understanding of the nature of the disease and provide the possibility of early treatment. The aim of the present study was to compare the structural and numerical chromosomal differences and changes in the p16 and p53 genes between low-grade (LG) and high-grade (HG) bladder cancer (BC) using cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic methods.

Immediate and long-term high levels of plasma homocysteine after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy in patients with renal stone disease.

Background: Plasma homocysteine levels increase in patients with chronic renal failure. Numerous studies have demonstrated that kidney function is one of the most important determinants of plasma total homocysteine (tHcy) concentration. In this study we aimed to evaluate the relationship between tHcy levels and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) for patients with renal stones and to see if the change in homocysteine levels continued if renal dysfunction improved.

Genetic polymorphisms of estrogen receptor alpha and catechol-O-methyltransferase genes in Turkish patients with familial prostate carcinoma.

Objectives: Estrogen is one of the most crucial hormones participating in the proliferation and carcinogenesis of the prostate glands. Genetic polymorphisms in the estrogen metabolism pathway might be involved in the risk of prostate carcinoma development. We evaluated the association between genetic polymorphisms in estrogen receptor alpha (ESR1) and catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) genes and the risk of developing familial prostate carcinoma.

An unusual cause of hematospermia: Primary adenocarcinoma of the seminal vesicle.

Adenocarcinoma of the seminal vesicles is one of the rare causes of hematospermia. Primary seminal vesicle adenocarcinoma is extremely rare and difficult to diagnose due to frequent invasion of adenocarcinomas of the surrounding organs, especially the prostate. In the present study, a case of a primary seminal vesicle adenocarcinoma will be discussed in the light of the current literature.

Prediction of neurodevelopmental outcome in term neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.

Background: Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy may result in many neurological deficits. It is crucial to make early diagnosis and assess the prognosis correctly.

Aims: We aimed to determine the factors to evaluate the prognosis of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.

Acute urinary retention due to cystic echinococcosis: A case report.

Urinary hydatidosis is very rare and represents 2% to 4% of all cases of cystic echinococcosis. We present a case of a 21-year-old man with symptoms of frequency, urinary retention and reduced force in urinary stream due to cystic echinococcosis. Anti-Echinococcus granulosus antibodies were determined by echinococcosis western blotting, and pelvic computed tomography revealed a 11 × 14 × 10-cm retrovesical homogeneous cystic mass.

An unusual association of Goldenhar syndrome.

Goldenhar syndrome is well known for its classical triad of epibulbar dermoids or lipodermoids, auricular appendages and pretragal fistulas. Here we report a case of Goldenhar syndrome with an unusual association of a fibroepithelial polyp attached to a limbal dermoid. A case of Goldenhar syndrome in a 5-month-old male infant presented with the features of a fibroepithelial polyp attached to a limbal dermoid, right-sided polydactylia with hypoplastic thumb, and accessory preauricular appendages on the left side.

Evaluation of the effects of androgen receptor gene trinucleotide repeats and prostate-specific antigen gene polymorphisms on prostate cancer.

The number of trinucleotide repeats [CAG (coding for polyglutamine), GGC (coding for polyglycine)] in the first exon of the androgen receptor (AR) gene and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) gene androgen response element I A/G polymorphism are both related to prostate cancer prognosis. We investigated whether these genomic changes occur in the AR and PSA genes, which are usually found in individuals with prostate cancer, of Turkish patients and to find out their distribution in the population. We used PCR and PCR-RFLP assays for AR and PSA genes, respectively, to detect molecular changes in 44 prostate cancer patients.

Three different techniques for administering analgesia during transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy: a comparative study.

Purpose: The efficacy of three different analgesic techniques during transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided prostate biopsy, including (i) periprostatic blockage (PPB), (ii) intrarectal gel instillation, and (iii) sedoanalgesia were compared.

Material And Methods: During a period of five months, 100 consecutive men were enrolled in this study. A 10-point linear visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to assess the pain scores during (VAS 1), immediately after (VAS 2) and one hour after (VAS 3) the needle biopsy procedure.

Gallbladder perforation: clinical presentation, predisposing factors, and surgical outcomes of 46 patients.

Background/aims: We aimed to investigate the clinical features and the relation between patient characteristics and the different types of gallbladder perforation and to determine the predisposing factors.

Material And Methods: The medical records of 478 patients who received urgent surgical treatment with the diagnosis of acute cholecystitis and underwent urgent surgery in our clinics between January 1997 and November 2008 were reviewed retrospectively. The demographic data of patients, time elapsed from the onset of the symptoms to the time of surgery, comorbidity status, American Society of Anesthesiologists classification, laboratory data, imaging results, surgical procedures, postoperative complications, and postoperative length of stay of the patients were analyzed.

MTHFR gene polymorphisms in bladder cancer in the Turkish population.

Spontaneous healing of gallbladder perforation: report of a case.

Gallbladder perforation is a serious complication of acute cholecystitis. Spontaneous healing is very rare, and only three cases have been reported in the English literature. In this study, we present a 73-year-old female patient who underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy years after a gallbladder perforation and spontaneous healing.
